About The Role
Permanent appointment. Required for Cambridge. We are seeking enthusiastic field archaeologists who are at Archaeologist and Assistant Supervisor grades to join our Cambridge and Oxford offices.
Cambridge Office Programme
Our Cambridge office has a busy and exciting programme of fieldwork across southern England and the East Midlands, including excavating large Iron Age and Roman settlements, large evaluations, and excavations of prehistoric to medieval remains.
Oxford Office Programme
Our Oxford office has a busy programme of work both locally and on away‑based projects, including excavations of Roman and Iron Age settlements, a large Mesolithic flint excavation and several projects within the City of Oxford.
Criteria for the Roles
- Archaeologist
- Successful candidates will join the Field Archaeologist Training Pathway, gaining clear career development progress through site and reading logs, off‑site training sessions, and learning on new skills. Competency levels lead to promotion to Assistant Supervisor.
- Minimum six months experience of professional archaeological fieldwork within the UK or Irish commercial environment; documented evidence of competence is advantageous.
- Degree in archaeology or related discipline highly advantageous, as is membership of CIfA at PCIfA level.
- Full clean driving licence desirable; current CSCS card desirable.
- Assistant Supervisor
- Successful candidates will join the Field Assistant Supervisor Training Pathway, receiving office‑based training on Health and Safety, site survey, post‑excavation, finds recognition, and staff mentoring.
- On‑site training includes task delegation, supervision, and record checking.
- External training courses such as plant supervision (NPORS), CAT, Genny, First Aid at Work, and SSSTS are also available. Achieving competency allows application for promotion to Supervisor grade.
- Proven experience, technical proficiency, and good working knowledge of professional archaeological fieldwork within the UK or Irish commercial environment.
- Degree in archaeology or related discipline highly advantageous, as is membership of CIfA at PCIfA level.
- Full clean driving licence desirable; current CSCS card desirable.
