Oxfam is a global movement of people working together to end the injustice of poverty. We are looking for a Humanitarian Influencing Adviser to provide expertise in advocacy and political influencing within humanitarian contexts. The role shapes Oxfam’s Humanitarian Influencing strategy, supports the development of humanitarian country teams’ advocacy strategies, and engages strategically with UK government decision‑makers, parliamentarians, and global partners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advocacy and political influencing expertise to shape strategy and stakeholder engagement based on Oxfam’s Humanitarian Influencing priorities.
  • Support the development of humanitarian country teams’ advocacy strategies.
  • Engage strategically with decision‑makers and parliamentarians in the UK while respecting political sensitivities.
  • Coordinate with diverse partners, including those in dispersed locations globally.
  • Use research data and learnings to inform programme and policy development.
  • Provide sound judgement in complex situations and work under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Considerable experience in developing and implementing humanitarian advocacy strategies and building coalitions.
  • Strong knowledge of the humanitarian influencing ecosystem in the UK and globally.
  • Robust understanding of the UK Government’s role in upholding international law and responding to humanitarian crisis.
  • Strong influencing and diplomatic skills with awareness of political sensitivities.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, combining an accessible style with rigorous analytical skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, take initiative and balance competing priorities under pressure.
  • Proven sound judgement in complex situations.
  • Experience in using research data and learnings for programme and policy development.
  • Able to coordinate with various actors on diverse activities within tight timelines.
