As a pioneer in the financial services industry, we are committed to leveraging cutting‑edge AI technologies, including generative AI, to enhance our operations, improve customer experiences, and drive strategic growth. This role is pivotal in shaping our AI strategy, designing and implementing state‑of‑the‑art solutions that comply with regulatory standards and mitigate potential risks. The ideal candidate is a self‑starter with a strong technical background, a keen interest in AI, and a background in best‑practise software engineering. You will work closely with the CTO and collaborate with other members of the AI Steering Committee to ensure the ethical and responsible development of AI solutions. You will be responsible for the professional development of Junior members of the AI team, ensuring that they continue to develop excellent solution development skills. This role offers the possibility to progress to Lead AI Software Engineer.
Role Responsibilities:
- Design and Development: Conceptualise, design, and implement AI‑powered solutions, including those leveraging generative AI, to address business challenges and opportunities. Utilise data engineering and analysis techniques to prepare and process data for AI model training and deployment. Integrate AI solutions with existing systems and infrastructure. Manage and mentor junior team members to ensure that they acquire the skills necessary to develop robust solutions that adhere to Oxbury software engineering practices.
- Risk Management and Compliance: Ensure adherence to data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, UK Data Protection Act 2018) to prevent data breaches and unintended data loss. Implement robust risk management frameworks, specifically addressing the unique challenges of generative AI, to identify and mitigate potential risks associated with AI solutions. Stay abreast of regulatory developments in the financial services sector concerning AI, specifically guidelines from the PRA, FCA, and the Bank of England, and ensure compliance. Pay particular attention to the AI Public‑Private Forum's outputs and the Bank of England's AI strategy.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams, including IT, business analysts, and product managers. Communicate technical concepts, including those related to generative AI, and findings to non‑technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. Manage expectations and provide regular updates on project progress. Stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI technologies and methodologies, particularly in the rapidly evolving field of generative and agentic AI. Proactively identify areas for improvement and propose innovative solutions. Contribute to the development of best practices and knowledge sharing within the team, specifically regarding the use of generative AI in the financial services context.
Required Skills / Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Expertise in data engineering and analysis techniques, including data cleansing, transformation, and feature engineering.
- Demonstrable Software Engineering experience at a senior level, being able to propose solutions to complex problems and to deliver them unaided.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their AI/ML services.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Self‑motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
- Professional experience in developing and deploying AI solutions, including those leveraging generative AI, in a regulated environment, preferably in the financial services sector.
- Team leadership experience.
- Knowledge of data protection regulations and risk management principles.
- Understanding of ethical considerations and potential biases in AI development, particularly in the context of generative models.
- Certification or professional development in AI/ML or related fields.
