An established and fast-growing renewable energy IPP is seeking a Lead BESS Engineer to support the development and delivery of utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects. This is an opportunity to join a well-capitalised platform with an active development pipeline and a strong track record across the UK and Europe.

Reporting into the EPC leadership team, you will provide electrical engineering expertise across development, tendering, design review and construction support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide electrical engineering input across development, construction and asset delivery teams.
  • Lead and support conceptual design studies, feasibility assessments and technical due diligence for PV and BESS projects.
  • Prepare and manage Employer’s Requirements (ERs) for electrical works for tender processes.
  • Review and audit contractor (EPC/ICP/EBOP) designs to ensure compliance with ERs and grid requirements.
  • Evaluate electrical designs including:
  • HV/MV substation design
  • Primary plant layouts
  • Protection & control systems
  • Power system studies
  • Earthing design
  • LV distribution systems
  • Support grid connection strategy, reviewing DNO/TSO requirements and grid agreements.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to specify key electrical equipment.
  • Drive standardisation and optimisation initiatives to reduce CAPEX and OPEX.
  • Provide technical support during construction and coordinate resolution of site-related electrical design issues.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers where required.
  • Your Profile
    • BEng (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering.
    • 5+ years’ experience in renewable energy project design and/or construction.
    • Strong understanding of grid connections for power generation projects.
    • Experience with PV and/or BESS plant design.
    • Proficiency with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, PowerFactory or equivalent).
    • Experience reviewing electrical schematics and technical documentation.
    • Knowledge of grid code compliance and international electrical standards.
    • Strong analytical skills and commercial awareness (ability to link design decisions to CAPEX/OPEX impact).
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing IPP environment.
    Desirable
    • Experience with UK grid connection processes.
    • Commissioning experience.
    • Experience working on utility-scale projects.
