Transport Planner – Cardiff Depot
Shifts available: Monday–Friday. Working hours: 06:00–15:00 week one, 10:00–19:00 week two on a rotating basis.
Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the timely traffic planning of routes and scheduling delivery times to ensure the customer receives a first‑class service in a cost‑effective way.
- Plan ahead – tasks and resources, ensuring cost and quality standards.
- Work largely unsupervised to meet quality standards and budgets.
- Liaise with internal and external customers to resolve problems.
- Collect, analyse and distribute information and data.
- Provide professional and specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop relationships with external customers.
- Specify and ensure support service levels are in place.
- Prioritise and coordinate workloads; plan routes and schedule delivery times.
- Coordinate driver briefings, debriefings and liaise with other depots.
- Communicate with delivery drivers, monitor performance and proactively reduce late deliveries.
- Use computerised system and Excel for schedules, journeys and loads.
- Ensure compliance with transport regulations, VOSA and SAFED requirements.
- Monitor and eliminate infringements; promote SAFED achievement.
- Assist with employee health and safety and ensure vehicles and trailers meet inspection requirements.
- Restock and schedule driver agency staff based on workload.
- Provide general support to management when required.
Qualifications
- Experience of working at a similar level.
- CPC holder desirable (National) but not essential.
- Job‑specific qualification preferred.
- Traffic management experience.
- Experience dealing with VOSA compliance.
- Problem solving and logical thinking.
- Ability to work unsupervised, managing time and prioritising to meet tight deadlines.
- Computer skills – Stirling desirable, Excel proficient.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels.
- Geographical knowledge and team‑player attitude.
