Owens Group is a leading UK-based haulage, warehousing and distribution company operating across the UK and Europe. We are committed to delivering high service standards while maintaining robust safety, security and operational controls across all depot locations. We are seeking a professional, vigilant and operationally focused Security & Yard Operations Controller to be based at our Magor Depot. This is a key frontline control role responsible for site security, gatehouse operations, yard coordination and real-time operational support. The role plays a critical part in ensuring the safe, secure and efficient flow of vehicles, trailers and visitors on site. Working closely with the Traffic Planning team and reporting directly to the Depot Manager, the successful candidate will provide accurate yard visibility, enforce site compliance and support the execution of the daily transport plan. Security, communication and operational control are central to this position.

Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off NIGHTS

Hours: 12-hour shifts 18:00 - 06:00 (Nights) – £14.50ph

Key Responsibilities

  • Control and monitor all vehicle and pedestrian access to the depot.
  • Conduct comprehensive gate checks on all vehicles entering and exiting site.
  • Inspect loads to ensure they are correctly strapped and compliant upon arrival.
  • Enforce site rules and challenge unauthorised access confidently and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of vehicle movements.
  • Manage visitor sign-in procedures and issue appropriate passes.
  • Monitor site activity and escalate any security concerns immediately.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Previous experience in security, yard control, gatehouse or transport operations.
  • Experience liaising with Traffic Planning teams or operational management.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to challenge professionally.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Confident using IT systems and reporting portals.
  • Ability to work independently on a rotating day/night shift pattern.
  • Calm and decisive under pressure.

Desirable

  • Experience within a haulage, logistics or warehouse environment.
  • Knowledge of load security and transport compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety regulations within logistics operations.
