The company: We’re working with a profitable, mission-driven technology company that has been operating quietly at scale for over a decade and is now experiencing explosive growth due to AI demand. The platform connects organisations with high-quality, real human data - data that is now being used by some of the most advanced AI teams in the world to train and evaluate their models. What started in research has rapidly expanded into AI and platform services, and the engineering team is scaling fast to keep up.
The business recently restructured into multiple product verticals to handle demand and is now hiring senior engineers to help shape the next phase of growth. You’ll join a senior-heavy, product-focused engineering team working on systems that sit at the intersection of AI, research, and real-world human input. This is a backend-first role (≈70%), with the opportunity to work across the stack where it makes sense.
You’ll be expected to think like a product engineer - balancing delivery, quality, and long-term platform health:
- Building and owning backend services using Python (Django)
- Designing APIs and workflows that support high-volume, real-world usage
- Collaborating closely with Product and Design to shape features end-to-end
- Improving platform reliability, scalability, and developer experience
- Contributing across the stack when needed (TypeScript / frontend exposure)
- Operating in a fast-moving, slightly scrappy environment where priorities evolve quickly
Requirements:
- Python (Django) – core backend
- TypeScript (nice to have)
- Vue.js on the frontend
- Modern product tooling and CI/CD practices
- 4–6+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Proven senior-level ownership - comfortable operating with ambiguity
- Product mindset: able to think beyond tickets and code
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Experience in start-ups or scale-ups strongly preferred
- Experience in AI, data platforms, or research tooling is a bonus - not a requirement.
Interview Process:
- 30-minute intro call (engineering & talent)
- 60-minute paired programming session (Python-focused) - Emphasis on communication, collaboration, and testing
- Product & engineering interview (tech + product thinking)
- Final behavioural conversation with senior leadership
Platform already used globally, now scaling rapidly due to AI demand. Strong product culture with real-world impact. Senior-only hiring bar - quality over quantity. Fully remote within the UK. Clear growth plans: engineering team scaling from ~60 → 100+. Competitive package: £85–95k base, Up to 10% bonus, Equity scheme and Market leading benefits.
