This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Risk and Best Practice Managers to join a growing Risk & Compliance function, supporting the firm on complex, high-risk matters and strategic compliance initiatives. The Risk and Best Practice Manager role is senior, influential and highly visible across the business.
The Role – Risk and Best Practice Manager
As a Risk and Best Practice Manager, you will act as an escalation point for complex compliance issues while managing a varied portfolio of risk, regulatory and governance work. The position will work closely with partners, senior leadership and business services teams to embed a strong culture of compliance across the firm. This role offers exposure to firmwide projects, regulatory developments and senior decision-making, and will play a key role in mentoring junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as escalation point for complex and higher-risk compliance matters
- Advise partners and staff on:
- Professional standards and ethics
- Regulatory compliance
- Data protection
- Conflicts of interest
- Promote and embed a positive risk and compliance culture across the firm
- Lead and manage risk and compliance-related projects
- Partner with divisional and business leads on new initiatives
- Produce and analyse risk and compliance data to identify trends and gaps
- Update and maintain terms of business, engagement letters and precedents
- Identify and implement operational efficiencies in compliance processes
- Draft clear policies, guidance notes, bulletins and internal communications
- Design and deliver tailored compliance training across practice areas
- Monitor and interpret regulatory and legal developments affecting the firm
- Escalate higher-risk matters to the Risk Committee with clear briefing papers
- Coach and develop junior members of the team
- Support ad‑hoc risk and compliance matters as required
Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience in risk and compliance within a law firm
- Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements affecting law firms
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly analytical with strong attention to detail
- Qualified Solicitor with a current Practising Certificate
- Experience managing or coaching others
