Owen Reed is looking for a Senior Legal Cashier for a top law firm in London. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Legal Cashier to join a busy finance team and play a key role in supporting fee earners, clients and the wider business. The Senior Legal Cashier will be responsible for a broad range of legal cashiering and finance duties, requiring strong technical knowledge, attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Working Days and Hours: Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5:30pm
Location: Bank, London
The Role: As a Senior Legal Cashier, you will be fully familiar with legal finance processes and procedures and will take responsibility for daily, monthly and quarterly cashiering activities across client and office accounts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily bank reconciliations and transfers between Client and Office bank accounts
- Month-end bank reconciliations for Client and Office accounts
- Supporting credit control, including daily reminders and chasing outstanding payments
- Escalating problem clients to the Head of Finance and Operations and/or lead fee earners
- Reconciliation of client monies held on account
- Posting client disbursements, recharging disbursements and settling once funds are received
- Daily and month-end reconciliation of credit card spend and raising bills to recharge costs to clients
- Managing high-value, high-volume immigration credit card transactions, including Home Office visa fees
- Managing client credits for Home Office refunds as received
- Supporting quarterly statutory payments, including VAT, CT61 and Corporation Tax in advance
- Dealing directly with clients and taking phone payments when required
- Supporting fee earners and support staff with finance-related queries
- Supporting month-end billing, with a key focus on closing billing within six working days (moving towards four)
- Supporting the purchase ledger, including coding supplier invoices to correct nominal codes for posting to the PMS
- Supporting month-end petty cash reconciliation
- Processing, posting and paying employee expenses
About You:
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a Senior Legal Cashier or similar role within the legal sector
- Diploma Level ILFM (Dip), Associate Level AILFM, or another relevant finance qualification
- Exceptional attention to detail with a methodical and accurate approach
- Proven ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
- Proactive, determined and solutions-focused
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a professional and discreet manner
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a team
- Flexible, can and will do attitude with a desire to learn and develop
- Proactive in anticipating and managing potential issues
- Confident managing colleague and client expectations, including when challenges arise
- Strong experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and legal finance software
