Owen Mumford is looking to hire two enthusiastic, skilled, and innovative Apprentice Design Engineers. As part of the R&D department you will work on exciting and challenging projects from conception through to production. You will experience all aspects of a full medical device design role working alongside Customers, Sales and Marketing, Project Management, Quality, and Manufacturing departments. Reporting directly to a Principal Design Engineer & Design Team leader or Senior Design Engineer, you will be an integral member of the R&D Team and accountable for development within Device Research. This role is offered full time and includes a 1 day release during the week at the chosen college or course provider for formal learning. The apprenticeship lasts approximately 48 months and you will complete a Level 6 apprenticeship.
Key Responsibilities
- To gain a thorough understanding of R&D practices across Owen Mumford, learning on the job and through time with your mentor.
- To query / question at all times, in order to expand the apprentice’s knowledge base and to ensure full understanding of work instructions given and any safety implications of such instructions.
- To maintain an accurate and up-to-date logbook detailing training completed and work experience / competencies gained, to such standard as required by the line management and external auditors.
- To diligently attend training courses externally or internally within Owen Mumford and obtain a level of learning and performance that is exemplary.
To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Need
- Computer literate and mechanically adept
- Clear and concise communication skills both written and oral
- Excellent ability using Microsoft Word and Excel
- GCSEs in Maths & English or equivalent
- Excellent organisational skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Confident in dealing with people at all levels
