Owen Mumford are looking to hire a Health, Safety & Environment Compliance Officer! Could this be your next role?
Scope:
We are looking for a proactive and knowledgeable HSE Compliance Officer to join our HSE team. In this key position, you will champion Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) best practices across the business, supporting compliance with relevant legislation and driving a positive HSE culture through continuous improvement initiatives. Youll act as a key advisor across the organisation, ensuring we maintain and enhance our HSE management systems, comply with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards, and foster safe, sustainable working environments. While the primary focus is the UK, youll also collaborate with our international affiliates to promote group-wide HSE initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Management System & Compliance: Maintain and continuously improve the HSE management system and documentation to ensure full compliance with UK legislation, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and HSE best practice. Lead internal audits, manage third-party and regulatory audits, and ensure effective closure of all actions.
- Incident Management & Risk Assessment: Ensure timely investigation of accidents, incidents, and safety observations, tracking all corrective actions to completion. Maintain and review risk assessments using the Sevron platform, supporting departments in maintaining up-to-date safety documentation.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Develop, track, and report HSE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), using leading and lagging indicators to assess performance. Use action trackers to recommend and communicate improvements and trends to key stakeholders through HSE meetings and reports.
- Training & Awareness: Liaise with Learning & Development to recommend and support mandatory and role-specific HSE training. Promote awareness of HSE responsibilities at all levels, supporting behavioural change and development of a strong safety culture across the business.
- Emergency Preparedness & Contractor Management: Ensure emergency procedures are up to date and rehearsed. Support the management of external contractors and advise on specialist risks such as COSHH, noise, occupational health, and waste management, bringing in external expertise when required.
- Environmental & Sustainability Initiatives: Support environmental improvement programmes, manage the Aspects and Impacts Register, and contribute to CSR and sustainability projects. Collaborate on legal and regulatory submissions, including ESOS, SERC, Waste and EPR reporting.
- Global Engagement & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain strong connections with international HSE representatives to promote alignment and shared learning across the organisation.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment with practical knowledge of safe working practices.
- Strong background in Health, Safety & Environmental Management Systems and compliance.
- In-depth understanding of current HSE legislation and ISO standards (ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
- Experience conducting audits, managing risk assessments, and delivering training programmes.
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and report creation.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent planning and time-management skills.
- Highly self-motivated, resilient, and adaptable to change.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills at all levels.
- Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Certifications: IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH General Certificate in Health & Safety, IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management (or equivalent) & ISO 14001/45001 Internal or Lead Auditor qualification
- Minimum of Technical Member status with IOSH (formerly Graduate Membership).
Desirable:
- Level 5 or 6 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Experience working within ISO 13485-regulated environments.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices and environmental reporting.
