Our client are a leading manufacturer providing specialist solutions to a variety of industries such as aerospace, power generation, rail and oil and gas industries. They are looking for an experienced Electromagnetics Engineer to join the team.

We are currently looking for an Electro-Magnetic Engineer with over 3 years of product development experience to assist in the ongoing design and production of electric motors and generators for aerospace, defence and oil and gas industries. In this role, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team including project managers, mechanical and electrical engineers, aerodynamicists and manufacturing engineers, working collaboratively to deliver technology roadmap products and sustaining engineering support. Their input will be broad with activities spanning the full product development lifecycle including assisting Principal Engineers in bids/proposals for new development contracts, driving R&D activities by identifying design/production innovations and providing legacy production support.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

  • The design of electro-magnetic devices such as BLDC, Synchronous PM and Induction motors & generators, and desirable to produce derivative designs of electro-magnetic sensors such as resolvers.
  • Concept analysis and design trade off across a range of motor technologies.
  • Where necessary, conduct electro-magnetic FE analysis and magnetic circuit calculations using software tools such as MotorCAD and Ansys Maxwell etc.
  • Carry out system performance (motor/controller) simulation and impact on motor design and requirements using software tools, such as MotorCAD.
  • Define acceptance and qualification requirements and complete testing on new and existing wound product devices.
  • Support team in sales visits/discussions with customer.
  • Support production issues on electro-magnetic products.
  • Produce engineering reports, specifications, compliance statements, procedures to a high standard.
  • Able to produce and review engineering documents such as drawings, specifications, reports and procedures.
  • Work effectively within multidisciplinary and inter-departmental teams to support the New Product Introduction process.
  • Work within company procedures and contribute to their development, the objective being to maximise company efficiency whilst meeting all customer requirements.
  • Support the preparation of technical proposals, costings and associated documentation to support business development.
  • Providing technical support to the sales teams in order to secure new business.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Experience with a range of 2D / 3D FEA packages, such as MotrorCAD, ANSYS etc.
  • Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering with specialisation in e-machine design.
  • Strong simulation and analytical skills.
  • Data analysis; efficiency using MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Able to interpret and write codes using MATLAB, Python, Octave etc.
  • Able to quickly pick-up new tasks and understand issues, find solutions and implement change.
  • Ability to work under pressure while managing conflicting demands against tight guidelines.
  • A self-starter with energy and enthusiasm who can thrive in a small close-knit team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Working hours:

  • Monday – Thursday 8am – 4.30pm
  • Friday 8am – 1.30pm
