Bid Project Manager Advanced Composites & Defence Sector
A leading manufacturer of advanced composite structures is seeking a Bid Project Manager to join their growing team. Based in North Yorkshire, the company specialises in the design and manufacture of technically complex, precision-engineered components used in critical defence and aerospace applications from submarines and ships to aircraft systems.
This is a newly created role driven by increased demand and a rising number of incoming bid opportunities. Its ideal for someone with a strong mix of organisational, commercial, and technical understanding, who can take full ownership of the bid process across the business.
Responsibilities Bid Management
- Lead the full bid process from bid/no-bid decision through to contract award and handover
- Ensure all bids are submitted on time, to standard, and aligned with customer requirements
- Coordinate inputs from Sales, Engineering, Procurement, Operations, Quality, and Commercial teams
- Develop well-rounded, competitive bid packs covering cost, schedule, and technical deliverables
- Act as the key contact for all bid-related activities both internally and externally
- Work with senior stakeholders and customers to manage expectations and align objectives
- Produce high-quality proposals, offer letters, pricing summaries, and schedules
- Maintain bid registers, tracking tools, and KPI metrics for internal reviews
- Support a seamless transition to delivery teams post-award, enabling clear understanding of scope, budget, and customer requirements
Requirements
- Background in bid or project management within technical, engineering, manufacturing, or construction environments
- Understanding of cost estimating, project scheduling, and risk management principles
- Comfortable coordinating complex, multi-stakeholder projects with tight deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills able to engage with all levels across the business and clients
- Experience working on bids related to highly engineered or R&D products within regulated sectors (defence, aerospace, etc.) is highly desirable
- Strong organisational and documentation skills, with attention to detail in proposal writing and submissions
- Willingness to work on-site and travel occasionally across the UK
