GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Senior Interface Engineer will lead the Interface Management function on the Caledonia Offshore Wind Farm project, ensuring that all cross-package technical interfaces are identified, managed, and resolved efficiently. Reporting to the Senior Design Manager, the Senior Interface Engineer will oversee interface planning, documentation, and coordination across multi-disciplinary engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams – ensuring effective communication, risk mitigation, and delivery to the highest technical and safety standards.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop, implement, and manage the Interface Management Plan in alignment with project requirements – defining the objectives, responsibilities and management systems for identifying and controlling engineering and construction interfaces.
- Prepare and maintain interface registers, schematics and 3D models for the project.
- Establish and implement governance processes for interface management, including change control, information exchange, technical queries, and management of free issued materials.
- Manage inter-package liaison – chairing coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders and ensuring timely resolution of interface issues.
- Reviewing design and delivery contract documentation from an interface perspective, ensuring consistency and identifying scope gaps, overlaps or discrepancies in technical specifications.
- Identify, assess and report on interface risk, proposing and tracking mitigation strategies.
- Develop and assess design and construction programme scenarios with a focus on key interfaces.
- Support cross-functional design workstreams to optimise solutions to interface conflicts and clashes, ensuring thorough documentaton of design reviews, risk assessments and change/decision management.
- Keep the project description, base case assumptions and basis of design updated with accurate interface management information.
- Review design, installation, construction, and commissioning strategies from an interface perspective, raising and resolving issues as needed.
- Manage the change register, ensuring all technical decisions are recorded with supporting justification.
- Support construction planning by coordinating with package managers to provide site data and services including weather modelling, and construction progress reporting.
- Manage due diligence processes, including independent verification, certification, and Lenders Technical Advisor reviews.
- Contribute to construction and O&M strategies, identifying and managing interface points between contractors.
- Manage and develop junior engineers, ensuring a constructive working environment, balanced workload, and continuous improvement.
- Undertake ad hoc cross-package delivery tasks as required by the project and wider engineering function.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Required:
- Experience in multi-disciplinary project environments, ideally in offshore wind.
- Understanding of offshore wind farm delivery packages, including turbines, foundations, cables, substations, onshore transmission systems, grid connection, vessels, and harbours.
- Proven experience with interface management processes in large-scale engineering projects.
- Familiarity with offshore wind contracting approaches, risk allocation, and CDM Regulations.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of planning and consenting processes for offshore and onshore generation and transmission assets.
- Understanding of offshore design standards, O&M standards, and electrical system regulations.
SKILLS
- Proactive, self-starting approach to project and contract management.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Capable of balancing competing priorities and deadlines under project constraints.
PROFESSIONAL & ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline is required.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the offshore wind industry is desirable.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or working towards.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Based in Edinburgh, with travel to to supplier facilities and offices as required.
Candidates must be fluent in English, both spoken and written. Additional languages may be an advantage.
