Staff Security Engineer (Data Specialist)
Location: Hub based in Bristol, Glasgow, or London; expect office presence at least once per week, availability for OVO Connection events.
Role Overview
As a Staff Security Engineer – Security Data Specialist, you will collaborate with fellow security engineers to design, build, and deploy data solutions that generate organisation‑wide security value. Your solutions enable product and service owners and engineering teams to proactively identify hidden problems and patterns in data, amplifying weaknesses and driving improvements to coding hygiene and system architecture.
Key Outcomes and Responsibilities
- Help architect, design, and deploy new features and functionality in a unified OVO security data platform to enable security engineers to optimise and automate cyber‑defence, attack‑surface management, and security controls assurance processes.
- Stay up‑to‑date with the latest security data and AI trends, tools, and technologies to ensure the team’s technical approach remains innovative.
- Foster an inclusive team environment where everyone feels valued and motivated to contribute.
- Communicate clearly with collaborators to explain concepts and drive informed decision‑making.
First 3 Months
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of existing security data sources, data pipelines, warehouse, and security operations principles.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of our security data and AI model architectures.
- Guide and educate other teams about effective security data and AI practices and opportunities.

Qualifications and Expectations
- Design and implement automation and AI‑augmentation frameworks and tools for threat detection, security findings, incident remediation, and risk operations; automate security playbooks, policies, and guardrails in CI/CD and IDE workflows.
- Create and deliver automated assurances against technical security guidance and configurations; build security audit points in digital services and enforce secure coding and provisioning policies.
- Strategically design security decision‑making experiences, measure impact, and apply statistical analysis and human‑centred design to present information effectively, including “de‑biasing” critical security processes.
- Mentor junior‑level security engineers, providing technical guidance, reviewing work, and supporting professional development.
- Contribute to the security engineering Community of Practice by leading discussions, sharing practices, and creating content to support collective growth.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: £72,000 – £95,000, based on experience and skills.
Bonus: 15% on‑target bonus aligned with the company Plan Zero goal.
Flex Pay: 9% flex pay (4% auto‑enrolled into pension, 5% adjustable for benefits or cash).
