Experience: Mid-level

You’ll be at the forefront of the UK’s energy transition, making a real difference for our customers and our planet!
Where you’ll work:
Depending on the needs of your business area, we expect hub based people to be in the office at least once a week, and to go to OVO Connection events in-person.
You’ll be assigned to the closest one of our three hub offices, Bristol, Glasgow, or London; unless your role requires field-based work. Each hub has accessible spaces to park your laptop, is designed to inspire people, help them connect and bring big ideas to life.
Everyone belongs at OVO
At OVO, we are on a mission to solve one of humanity\'s biggest challenges, the climate crisis. And we know it takes all of us to change the world. That\'s why we need diverse people from all gender identities, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, life experiences and backgrounds to join us.
Teamworking for the planet
Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen. Here’s how:
Working within OVO’s Energy Markets and Optimisation (EMO) function, this role sits within the Energy Margin area of the Future Energy team. We’re a team of experts on the energy market who provide deep insight on the costs and revenues of energy retail.
This role in a nutshell:
You’ll be an expert in forecasting the energy costs and revenues of energy retail, and work with teams across OVO to provide critical insights on the risks and opportunities your forecasts present. You will also engage with external colleagues across industry on key topics such as the retail price cap.
Your key outcomes will be:
- Maintain a deep understanding of the potential industry changes that could influence direct costs and/or the price cap in the future and work with the Policy and Regulation team to develop robust lobbying positions that support OVO’s goals.
- Actively engage with and develop relationships with key external stakeholders (regulator, market operators, industry experts) to ensure we are aware of all upcoming changes that could influence costs or the cap in a timely manner.
- Influencing external stakeholders to support OVO’s Plan Zero mission by representing OVO at industry stakeholder events and bilateral meetings with industry bodies, government and regulators.
- Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders across all levels to consolidate and cascade information, highlight risks and opportunities and develop business processes.
- Contribute to the technical development of automated systems and processes that ensure that forecast cost, tariff and margin data are made available to all internal stakeholders in an efficient and timely manner.
- Use your knowledge of analytical and statistical methods to develop robust and accurate industry cost forecast models and price cap forecast models.
Essential:
- An analytical degree, such as Maths, Physics, Engineering, Management Science, Finance or Economics.
- 2+ years work experience in an analytical role within the energy industry.
- Commercial awareness to support prioritisation and communication at a senior level.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and do not see it as a blocker to progress.
- Able to learn quickly in order to develop a detailed understanding of existing models and processes.
- Highly analytical with strong data manipulation skills and a demonstrably high attention to detail.
- A self-starter, comfortable working both autonomously and with colleagues to deliver value in a small, high-functioning team.
- Able to communicate complex ideas to a range of stakeholders, including senior leaders.
- Our primary tooling includes: BigQuery, Tableau/Looker, Python, Github and Airflow. You will need to either have experience in these tools, or be keen and confident to learn them in-role.
- Experience in cost or price cap forecasting.
- Experience of using BigQuery or SQL to create robust reporting and analysis.
- Experience in statistical and optimisation Python libraries such as Pandas and NumPy.
- Like to have defined tasks provided to you - we are a small team and the successful applicant will need to use their initiative in solving defined problems in innovative ways.
- Are uncomfortable with ambiguity or working in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
- Are not a team player, like to “stick to your lane” and resent occasionally reaching across to support a colleague.
We’ll pay you between £45,770 and £60,000, depending on your specific skills and experience.
We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero carbon mission.
You’ll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
We also offer plenty of green benefits and progressive policies to help you feel like you belong at OVO…and there’s flex pay. It’s an extra 9% of your salary on top of your core pay to use as you like. You can take it as cash, add to your pension, or choose to spend it on a huge range of flex benefits.
