Here’s how: Reporting to the Data Protection lead in the Risk and Compliance space you will be working to provide an excellent standard of data protection advice and oversight services across OVO Retail. We believe there’s more to life than “ticking-the-box” and being called only when something goes wrong. The Regulation and Compliance team are at the front line with everyone else working towards OVO’s vision and goals, truly integrated within the OVO.
This role in a nutshell: The focus of this role is on Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and responding to Data Protection information requests, advising the business on how to balance their business goals with our customers' interests. As a core member of the Privacy Function, you will be responsible for delivering operational privacy work and contributing to the development and embedding of a defensible and efficient privacy framework across the organisation. You will be working closely with senior management and teams across all of OVO Group to make sure that we support the business in their innovative projects and manage data appropriately.
Your key outcomes will be:
- Operational Excellence: Manage the Jira intake for all data privacy queries, requests for information, and marketing content reviews. Ensure all incoming privacy requests are correctly triaged, assessed, and closed according to the standardized workflow.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct privacy assessments and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) in line with the team's risk-based triage model, helping to refresh the DPIA and Privacy by Design and Default Process.
- Incident Management: Handle privacy incidents and breaches according to the established workflow, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Process Improvement: Contribute to the simplification of DPIA templates in OneTrust and the development of the Record of Processing Activities (RoPA).
- Strategic Support: Support the successful delivery of the Privacy Function's three-phase plan: Stabilization, Simplification, and Embedding.

- Be known within the business and by key collaborators as a trusted expert within Data Protection.

- Are comfortable with juggling multiple things at once! You're able to keep on top of a full workload with rapidly shifting priorities and are prompt in delivery.
- Have deep subject matter expertise of GDPR and associated regulations, with hands-on experience in practically applying them, including conducting DPIAs, handling data subject rights, and managing incidents.
- Have proven skills in translating complex legislation or legal advice into specific and clear business-focused guidance.
- Are a great communicator, able to communicate effectively with internal collaborators, data protection authorities, and customers.
- Have highly commercial and constructive problem-solving abilities. The OVO compliance, legal & risk teams pride themselves on ‘finding a way’.
- Are highly responsive and proactive – we build bridges as well as fight fires.
- Have experience with privacy management software like OneTrust and request-tracking systems like Jira Service Desk.
- Are a great teammate who can also work comfortably autonomously.
Let’s talk about what’s in it for you: We’ll pay you between £55,000 and £60,000, depending on your specific skills and experience. If your expectations are a little different, have a chat with us!
