Where you’ll work: At OVO, we understand that a one size fits all approach doesn’t work for everyone. That’s why we created the OVO Way of Flexibility. All our roles are hub based (Bristol, Glasgow or London), providing a dedicated space for collaboration, connection and teamwork. You’ll also have the flexibility to work from home.

Everyone belongs at OVO. At OVO, we are on a mission to solve one of humanity's biggest challenges, the climate crisis. And we know it takes all of us to change the world. That’s why we need diverse people from all abilities, gender identities, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, life experiences and backgrounds to join us.

Teamworking for the planet. Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen. Here’s how: Decarbonising the energy system by 2030 will affect all consumers of energy. OVO has a history of challenging the status quo, and we are bringing this entrepreneurial spirit to the decarbonisation challenge to find cheaper, simpler ways to put consumers at the heart of the energy transition.

The Energy Strategy team has three core pillars: Market Design, Innovation, and Flexibility. It’s our job to help the Energy business to look into the future, and position OVO to win.

This role in a nutshell: We’re investing in developing our ability to look into the future. You will be supporting across the Energy Strategy function, likely with a particular focus on the development of our market modelling capabilities that will forecast energy market conditions and credible alternate scenarios and establish modelling approaches to enable these forecasts to be used to assess commercial opportunities or threats.

Key activities will include:

  • Align key changes in energy market design to price and consumption based forecasts to provide a holistic view of future energy market scenarios.
  • Analysing publicly available market data for insights and trends, and translating this into threat or opportunity assessments for OVO.
  • Analysing third party or OVO proprietary data (such as price forecasts or consumption data) to build energy market forecasts.
  • Work with stakeholders across the business, including with colleagues in our sister company Kaluza, to share and embed forecasts in strategic decision making.
  • Define credible scenarios and create market forecasts aligned with these scenarios.

Other things - you will have the opportunity to work across the Energy Strategy Team to deliver our Energy Strategy goals.

You’ll be a successful Energy Strategy Analyst here at OVO if you:

It is important that you have:

  • A commercial and strategic mindset able to interpret analysis results into opportunities.
  • Strong analytical and modelling skills. Experience in data manipulation languages (such as SQL, Big Query, Python Pandas) and visualisation (e.g. Tableau, Looker).
  • Curiosity to dig into unknowns and find new opportunities for value growth.
  • Comfort operating within ambiguity, and in a fast-paced, agile environment; some experience in a start-up / entrepreneur-led environment might be helpful.
  • Strong prioritisation and self-organisation skills with a flexible, “find a way” mentality.
  • Good stakeholder management, forming strong relationships with the analytical and flexibility communities internally and externally. A team player, open communicator and collaborator.
  • Passion for learning more about the energy industry and flexibility. Passionate about helping consumers decarbonise their energy footprint.

Ideally you will have:

  • Some experience in the energy industry, ideally in flexibility or monetisation of flexible assets such as batteries.
  • Passion for setting the future agenda for the energy industry, and being on the leading edge of change with a proven track record for bringing people on the journey with you.
  • Degree with a mathematics focus such as maths, science or engineering.
