Here’s how: The Performance and Insight team exists to provide greater understanding of our operational performance, improve the accuracy and accessibility of data, and adapt quickly to our changing operational and technical environment. We handle complex and challenging issues and projects, embed a culture of continuous improvement, and enable the business' strategic transformation.

Through great Data Governance – we make it easier to find and understand our performance data by implementing great data governance ensuring that data is managed systematically so it can be used efficiently, securely, and is accessible to those who need it.

Easier to understand performance data – we create simple to understand MI against a set of visual standards, we work with each part of our business to educate our teams on how to spend the least amount of time finding the data vs investing their time in making the right decisions based on what the data tell us.

Understanding the work – we have a complex business and we architect MI to bring to light how we perform end‑to‑end showing what are the key drivers of work and where bottlenecks exist in the system.

Innovation and collaboration – as well as making sure we create the best MI today we are looking forward to tomorrow to look at new ways to automate our reporting and embed AI as a way to help our stakeholders identify where their focus should be.

This role in a nutshell: As a Data Governance and Standards Lead, you’ll sit at the intersection of technical and strategic – enabling the frameworks that allow Operations to treat data as a strategic asset, ensuring it is discoverable, high‑quality, and compliant with all internal standards. You will lead in driving data maturity, modernising our technical standards across our data toolstack while embedding a culture of ownership and excellence across our insight delivery.

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Data Maturity and Strategy: Drive Data Maturity: Manage and evolve the frameworks that measure and improve data maturity across the team – prioritising cost efficiency, robust security controls, and AI readiness. Architect Data Flows: Define how Operations collects, stores, and shares data between our analytical tools ensuring compliance with internal policies. Incident Management and Resilience: Lead the post‑incident process; ensuring leadership understands root causes, overseeing remediation, and embedding learnings across the wider team to prevent recurrence.
  • Technical Governance & Tooling: Platform Advocacy: Act as the champion and subject‑matter expert for our Data Catalogue and Data Quality tooling, driving adoption across the department. Metric Governance: Establish a metric governance framework; ensuring key Operational metrics have a business owner, definition, and technical logic documented. Technical Standards: Partner with technical experts to define best practices across GitHub, Dataform and GCP, ensuring code quality and standards are met.
  • Culture & Advocacy: Analytics Community: Actively engage with the wider analytics, data science and product community across OVO to align best practices. Knowledge Management: Ensure process and technical knowledge is well‑documented and easily accessible by analysts and business users. Iterative Change Management: Lead the rollout of data evolution using an agile approach – delivering high‑impact changes through rapid iterations that refine based on business needs.

  • Deliver through iteration: You are comfortable building and rolling out processes in an agile way – starting with an MVP, gathering feedback, and rapidly iterating to ensure our data frameworks stay relevant to the business's evolving needs.

Let’s talk about what’s in it for you: We’ll pay you between £55,000 and £60,000, depending on your specific skills and experience. If your expectations are a little different, have a chat with us! We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero‑carbon mission. You will be eligible for an on‑target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
