Overall Purpose of the Job
The Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the Scolmore International Warehouse, ensuring efficient, safe, and high-performing warehouse operations. You will lead and manage all warehouse activities, providing effective leadership, communication, motivation, training, development, and people management to ensure the team operates at the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and direct the day‑to‑day operations of the Scolmore warehouse facilities, ensuring efficient and effective performance across all areas.
- Maintain and promote high health and safety standards, ensuring all policies and procedures are fully adhered to and that the site remains a safe working environment for all employees.
- Manage the monthly warehouse Health & Safety reports, including racking inspections, ensuring all identified actions are completed within agreed timescales.
- Monitor and maintain quality of work and stock integrity, ensuring accuracy, control, and compliance at all times.
- Develop and implement proactive plans to support the integration of new products and increased volumes.
- Oversee staffing requirements, ensuring resourcing levels align with agreed plans and operational demands.
- Ensure all operational processes and tasks are completed within agreed timescales across areas of responsibility.
- Drive compliance with operational processes and quality standards, supported by LMS and internal procedures.
- Ensure clear, consistent, and effective communication is delivered both directly and through the management team.
- Lead, coach, and support Warehouse Managers, enabling them to effectively manage and develop their teams.
- Support the Facilities team with onsite maintenance requirements to ensure site functionality and standards are maintained.
- Manage the ordering of consumables, ensuring cost efficiency and continuity of supply.
- Ensure all MHE (Material Handling Equipment) maintenance, LOLER requirements, and defect resolutions are completed within required timeframes.
- Carry out regular audits to ensure legal compliance and completion of daily checks.
- Manage onsite third‑party security providers, ensuring all personnel clearly understand expectations and deliver required standards of service.
Essential Knowledge, Experience, and Skills, Other Attributes
- Proven track record of successfully managing a large‑scale site in a Site or Operations Manager capacity.
- Previous experience within a warehouse or distribution centre environment is essential.
- Experience of using a Warehouse Management System (WMS) or similar operational software would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience in managing large teams, leading by example, and setting as well as driving ambitious performance targets.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organisation.
- Strong and demonstrable track record of delivering against targets and KPIs.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience at an operational or site management level.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with other departments, ensuring alignment and effective cross‑functional working.
Desirable Knowledge, Experience and Skills
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed operational decisions.
- Experience of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen) to drive efficiency and reduce waste.
- Experience of managing third‑party suppliers or contractors, ensuring service delivery meets expectations.
Education and Qualifications
- GCSE English & Maths (Grade 4 or above) or demonstrable experience.
