Role Purpose: We're looking for a Cash Application Specialist to join our finance team, keeping customer receipts accurate, up to date, and properly allocated. You'll play a key role in cash allocation, bank reconciliation, and reducing unapplied cash - helping the wider team make confident, well-informed collection decisions.

About the role: You'll post and allocate customer receipts daily, help reconcile bank and ledger balances, and keep unallocated cash to a minimum. It's a hands-on role for someone who's organised, numerate, and comfortable investigating discrepancies until they're resolved.

What you'll do:

  • Post customer bank receipts and retail cash/card receipts in NetSuite daily
  • Allocate receipts accurately against customer accounts and open invoices
  • Investigate partial payments, overpayments, duplicates and unidentified receipts
  • Chase remittance advice from customers, working closely with Credit Control and Billing
  • Keep unapplied cash and customer credits under regular review, prioritising the oldest and highest-value items
  • Keep clear records of open issues and flag anything material to the Cash Application Manager
  • Reconcile daily retail/sales receipts against bank and ledger records
  • Prepare monthly bank-to-ledger reconciliations with supporting evidence
  • Investigate and clear reconciling items within agreed deadlines
  • Maintain a live schedule of outstanding items (value, age, reason, owner, action)
  • Support month-end close and escalate unresolved issues ahead of reporting deadlines
  • Spot recurring causes of unallocated cash or reconciliation breaks
  • Suggest practical fixes to process and controls
  • Help test and roll out automation or system improvements
  • Keep SOPs and process documentation up to date
  • Keep audit-ready records of postings, allocations and reconciliations
  • Follow company accounting policies and approval controls
  • Support audit queries as needed

What you'll bring:

  • 1-2 years' experience in cash application, cash allocation, accounts receivable or similar transactional finance role
  • Hands-on experience allocating customer payments and chasing down unapplied cash
  • Experience preparing or supporting bank and ledger reconciliations
  • Solid grasp of bookkeeping, customer ledgers and double-entry accounting
  • Good Excel skills - filters, lookups, pivot tables
  • Strong accuracy, organisation and written communication
  • Comfortable working to daily and month-end deadlines

Nice to have:

  • NetSuite experience
  • Microsoft Dynamics NAV experience, especially researching legacy transactions
  • Background in a high-volume, multi-entity, retail or hospitality environment
  • Experience reconciling card or payment-provider settlements (Stripe, Worldpay, Amex)

How success is measured:

  • Receipts posted within agreed daily SLA
  • Cash-allocation accuracy and low rework
  • Value and age of unapplied/unidentified cash
  • Reconciliations completed to month-end deadline
  • Number and age of open reconciling items
  • Speed and quality of query resolution

Please note, the role is hybrid - 3 days per week at our Central London offices and 2 from home. Salary range 30-34,000 depending on experience. Excellent benefits including private healthcare, corporate gym discount, food and beverage discount, regular pay reviews, ongoing training and development and more!
