The Hospitality Coordinator is an exciting new role and will play a key role in delivering a compassionate, individualised, flexible, and high-quality hospitality service within the new Inpatient Unit (IPU) at Overgate Hospice.

The new Inpatient Unit represents a major step forward in the hospices ability toprovide flexible, patient-centred care.

This role will playan essential role in this ensuring that every patient and family memberexperience high quality food and drink as a source of comfort, normality, andconnection.

Working from thenew hospitality kitchen, you will co-ordinate and provide meals, snacks, and refreshments for patients and their families ensuring everyonereceives a warm, welcoming, and personalised service.

The role willinclude compassionate patient interaction through discussing menu options, takingmeal orders, preparing and serving light snacks and drinks, presenting andserving meals at the patients bedside, and ensuring all crockery and utensilsare cleaned and stored appropriately.

You will assumeresponsibility for the cleanliness and daily checking and restocking of thevarious beverage stations and family spaces within the inpatient unit building

You will work closely with the Head Chef, Hospice Cook, and a team ofdedicated volunteers to ensure that food quality, presentation, and patientexperience remain of the highest standard, ensuring patients can enjoy food anddrink when they are ready, rather than at fixed times.

Main duties of the job

  • Take daily meal orders from patients and their families ensuring all dietary, allergen and statutory temperature requirements are clearly recorded and communicated to the kitchen in line with Hospice policy.
  • Serve meals, snacks, and refreshments in a professional and caring manner, ensuring patients can eat and drink comfortably and at their own pace.
  • Offer drinks and light refreshments to patients families and visitors, providing a welcoming environment.
  • Maintain excellent presentation of food and drink, following agreed portion sizes and quality standards.
  • Restocking and cleaning the various beverage stations and family spaces.
  • Provide daily guidance, direction and encouragement to volunteers, ensuring they feel supported and confident. Oversea rotas, training and feedback.
  • Build positive relationships across wider teams to ensure smooth and joined-up service delivery.
  • Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene within the hospitality kitchen, dining areas, and all associated service equipmentensuring items are sanitised and stored correctly.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, infection prevention and environmental health regulations.
  • Report any faults, maintenance issues, or incidents promptly to the Head Chef.
  • Respond to patient and family feedback positively, identifying opportunities to improve the service.
  • Contribute to hospice events and hospitality functions.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a healthcare, care home, or hospice environment.
  • Experience in dementia and /or palliative care awareness.
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements, allergens, and nutrition.
  • NVQ Level two in Hospitality, Catering, or Customer Service (or equivalent).

Experience

  • Proven experience in a catering, hospitality, or customer-service role.
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene, cleanliness, and safe food handling practices. Level two Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to achieve.
  • Knowledge and Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a caring, patient, and professional manner.
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a seven day service, including weekends and Bank Holidays.
  • Confidence in working both independently and as part of a small, supportive team.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check
