Join the Overgate Team in this exciting role as Community Events Fundraiser, where you will lead on the planning and delivery of our flagship, mass participation and community-led events, including the Garden Party, Colour Run and Midnight Walk. Your focus will be to maximise income from each event by creating exciting, engaging, and well-executed experiences that inspire participants to raise as much money as possible for Overgate Hospice.

Ensuring that communications leading up to and following each event actively encourage fundraising, celebrate achievements, and strengthen long-term supporter relationships will be central to your approach. Stewardship will ensure participants feel valued, supported, and motivated to continue their involvement with the Hospice beyond the event itself.

You will take responsibility for all aspects of event delivery, ensuring every event is professionally organised, financially successful, and delivered to a high standard. This includes full oversight of health and safety, risk management, and liaison with relevant authorities, including the local council and emergency services. You will ensure all events meet regulatory requirements, including the implementation of Martyn's Law and other relevant legislation, providing a safe and secure environment for all involved.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Leading the planning and delivery of the events, maximising fundraising income whilst providing welcoming, enjoyable, and meaningful experiences for members of the community, supporters, business partners, colleagues, and enlisted volunteers.
  • Overseeing all aspects of events such as venue arrangements, suppliers, liaising with relevant authorities, logistics, safety and risk assessment, and overall event delivery.
  • Encouraging and supporting participants to maximise their fundraising by sharing powerful and authentic stories that demonstrate the impact of Hospice care and support to local families.
  • Collaboration with Communications and Marketing to implement promotional plans that increase event participation and income.
  • Working with the Business Partnerships team to develop corporate sponsorship opportunities ensuring a positive and professional experience.
  • Assisting the wider Fundraising team with smaller events.
  • Managing the annual budget, maximising income whilst remaining within financial limits, maintaining accurate up-to-date records, using systems like Donorflex, following processes and procedures, evaluating the success of events, identifying opportunities for improvement, and strengthening future fundraising outcomes and supporter experiences.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering a portfolio of community fundraising events that generate significant income for Overgate Hospice while providing engaging and memorable experiences for supporters.
  • Researching, developing, and proposing a new community fundraising event to be introduced into the Hospice's annual events calendar.
  • Recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to support fundraising events, ensuring they feel confident, prepared, and valued in their roles.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the success of events, gathering insight and feedback to assess performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and strengthen future fundraising outcomes and supporter experiences.
  • Maintaining accurate records relating to event fundraising activity, ensuring processes and procedures are clearly documented and kept up to date to support consistency and continuous improvement.

Shared Responsibilities of the Fundraising Team include generating the income required to support the vital work of Overgate Hospice, providing an excellent supporter experience, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Training required include a good standard of general education, educated to GCSE level or able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience, and a recognised fundraising qualification.

Experience and Knowledge required include at least two years' experience working in a fundraising or event management role, experience of working in a busy office environment, and experience of managing budgets.

Skills and Abilities required include strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, and strong organisational and planning skills.

Personal Attributes include a commitment to providing a high-quality and professional service, high ethical standards, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

Additional Requirements include a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
