Job Overview
OV-Group Inns and Taverns is looking for a confident, hands-on Duty Pub Manager to support the smooth, safe and profitable running of one of our venues.
This role is ideal for someone with strong hospitality experience, excellent people skills and the ability to lead a team during busy service periods while maintaining high standards of customer care, cleanliness and compliance.
As Duty Pub Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the pub when on shift, ensuring guests receive a warm welcome, the team is well supported, and all areas of the business operate in line with company standards, licensing requirements and health and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead shifts confidently, ensuring the pub runs smoothly, safely and efficiently from opening to close.
- Deliver excellent customer service and create a welcoming atmosphere for guests, regulars and visitors.
- Support, motivate and supervise bar, floor teams during service.
- Handle customer queries, feedback and complaints professionally and promptly.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, food safety and hygiene across all areas of the venue.
- Ensure compliance with licensing laws, age-verification procedures, health and safety requirements and company policies.
- Oversee cash handling, till procedures, banking preparation and end-of-shift reporting where required.
- Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering, complete stock checks and reduce waste.
- Support team training, coaching and performance standards.
- Help plan and promote events, offers and community activity to drive footfall and sales.
- Assist with rota planning and ensure appropriate staffing levels for service needs.
- Report maintenance, safety or operational issues to senior management and follow up where needed.
About You
- Previous experience in a pub, bar, restaurant or hospitality management/supervisory role.
- Confident leading a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service skills and a friendly, professional approach.
- Good understanding of licensed premises, responsible alcohol service and age-verification procedures.
- Organised, reliable and able to prioritise tasks under pressure.
- Comfortable handling cash, basic reporting and stock control.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to be hands-on across the business.
- Good communication skills and the ability to resolve issues calmly and fairly.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Personal Licence Holder qualification or willingness to work towards one.
- Food hygiene awareness or certification.
- Experience with cellar management, stock systems or hospitality EPOS systems.
- Experience organising pub events, promotions or community engagement activity.

This role will involve a flexible working pattern, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and busy trading periods.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working across a variety of shifts and supporting the needs of the business.
