Academy: Outwood Alternative Provision Eston
Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary (Actual Salary): £13,628 to £21,134
Working Pattern: Part Time (2 days per week)
About the role:
This Science teaching role is an opportunity to make a positive difference for those students who require additional support to access their mainstream schooling and overcome barriers to learning and improved behaviour. Working in close collaboration with a team of Teaching Assistants, Hub Coordinators and the Leadership team, you will help deliver a curriculum that supports students, who access our centre, to improve their attendance, behaviour for learning and wellbeing. Supporting them to embrace routines and ultimately become re-engaged in mainstream education.
Welcome from the Principal:
Thank you for taking an interest in this teaching post at Outwood Alternative Provision Eston.
Outwood Alternative Provision Eston is an innovative alternative provision centre, principally for students from Outwood Academies in the Tees Valley who need additional behavioural, social, emotional or mental health support. In line with our absolute commitment to inclusion in its widest sense, this is an alternative provision for vulnerable students who display challenging behaviours and are often at risk of high levels of fixed-period exclusions or permanent exclusion.
Operating much smaller classes than our mainstream academies, this KS3/4 alternative provision focuses on personal development and the health and well being of students, whilst not losing academic rigour. We will focus on ensuring that all students can achieve well and are able to move to their next stage with confidence, be it education, employment or training.
We are an inclusive, and caring centre judged ‘good’ by Ofsted. At heart, we aim to ensure we best meet the needs of our students. Our centre supports the most vulnerable students including those who have SEND and are disadvantaged. Many of our students experience significant barriers to learning and some have adverse childhood experiences.
Responsibilities
The Teacher is expected to implement and use a wide range of teaching and learning strategies within the classroom, applying techniques like Assessment for Learning (AfL) to continually improve student performance. A core duty involves effectively using student level data to identify areas for development and raise standards.
This professional must be aware of strategies available for improving the learning and achievement of all students, alongside possessing a good understanding of curriculum developments within their specific subject area. The role requires maintaining high expectations for all students and effectively communicating with students and their parents, both orally and in writing. The teacher is expected to work collaboratively as part of a team, sharing good practice across the school, and demonstrating creativity in problem solving and a willingness to adopt new approaches.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include a degree in an appropriate discipline related to the relevant subject and a teaching qualification coupled with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Required experience includes recent and relevant teaching experience (either in employment or training) and experience of assessment at Key Stage 3 and 4.
The successful candidate will be confident in using standard computer packages (word processing, email, and spreadsheets) and understand how these tools can enhance student learning. The role demands high levels of professionalism, including the ability to relate to students in a pleasant and sympathetic manner, and a capacity to recognise potential child safeguarding issues.
