The main purpose of this role is to support teaching and learning in the Science Department on a day-to-day basis. Our Science Department is a diverse and experienced team, comprising both Early Career Teachers and colleagues with decades of teaching experience. We are committed to maintaining high expectations and aspirations for every student while delivering engaging, enjoyable, and inspiring lessons.
These lessons are facilitated by our technician team who prepare all practical resources for lessons and assist with the set up of specialist equipment. The department consists of a Head of Science, a Second in Department, and eight additional teaching staff. The pillar of the department is our technician team, who strive to ensure the needs of teachers and students are continually met.
We benefit from four well-equipped laboratories, with most teachers having access to their own dedicated teaching space. Our technician team have their own dedicated workspace and work closely with the team of teachers and Head of Science to ensure that we have everything required for our science lessons to elicit the best outcomes for our students.

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual who is committed to making a positive impact on students' lives and shares our core belief of putting students first.
Responsibilities:
- The technician provides vital daily support by organising and preparing apparatus and resources before lessons, including the construction and checking of specialist equipment.
- A primary focus is laboratory safety: conducting annual testing of apparatus, performing daily visual checks of gas, electricity, and water supplies, and ensuring the safe storage and maintenance of hazardous sources.
- They manage resources by maintaining accurate inventories, assessing future stock needs, and placing orders for departmental items.
- Post-lesson duties involve cleaning and removing apparatus, reviewing and re-organising storage, and carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs.
- The technician actively ensures all Health and Safety procedures are met.
Qualifications:
- Essential skills required are the ability to effectively communicate with a range of audiences, maintain confidentiality, and use standard ICT packages.
- The candidate must exhibit strong time management and organisation skills, along with the ability to prioritise their workload.
- While experience working in a school environment is desirable, practical experience within a specific curriculum area, particularly in electronics and/or physics, would be advantageous.
- The successful candidate must also show a willingness and ability to obtain and/or enhance qualifications and training relevant to the post.
