About The Department: The Art Department is housed within a vibrant Humanities, Languages and Art block and forms part of a dynamic wider Art and Technology Faculty. The department benefits from two dedicated art studios, alongside specialist facilities including a kiln and printmaking resources, providing students with a rich and creative learning environment. The department has a strong track record of delivering excellent outcomes across all Key Stages, with GCSE Art results consistently among the strongest in the school. Students are encouraged to develop confidence, independence and creativity through a broad curriculum encompassing drawing, painting, printmaking and 3D work. We are proud of our inclusive approach, supporting and inspiring students of all abilities to achieve success and develop a lifelong appreciation of the arts. Beyond the classroom, the department offers a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including workshops with a visiting printmaker and participation in an exciting trust-wide art competition held annually at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, giving students the opportunity to showcase and celebrate their creativity on a larger stage.
Responsibilities: The Teacher is expected to implement and use a wide range of teaching and learning strategies within the classroom, applying techniques such as Assessment for Learning (AfL) to continually improve student performance. A core duty involves effectively using student level data to identify areas for development and raise standards. This professional should be aware of strategies available for improving the learning and achievement of all students, have a good understanding of curriculum developments within their specific subject area, and maintain high expectations for all students. The role requires effective communication with students and their parents, orally and in writing, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, sharing good practice across the department. Demonstrating creativity in problem solving and a willingness to adopt new approaches is essential.
Qualifications: Essential qualifications include a degree in an appropriate discipline related to the relevant subject and a teaching qualification coupled with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Required experience includes recent and relevant teaching experience, either in employment or training, and experience of assessment at Key Stage 3 and 4. The successful candidate will be confident in using standard computer packages (word processing, email, and spreadsheets) and understand how these tools can enhance student learning. The role demands high levels of professionalism, including the ability to relate to students in a pleasant and sympathetic manner, and a capacity to recognise potential child safeguarding issues.
