Are you a dynamic, enthusiastic, and inspirational teacher of maths? Are you ready to join a supportive department in a school at the heart of the local community? Outwood Academy Redcar is looking to appoint a driven and skilled professional as a Teacher of Mathematics. We are seeking someone passionate about the subject with a strong desire to help all children see and appreciate the value of maths. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced colleague or an Early Career Teacher (ECT) who really wants to make a difference to the lives of young people.
Outwood Academy Redcar is a forward‑thinking 11‑16 academy located in the scenic coastal town of Redcar. We are proud to be a pilot school for the OGAT Inclusive Classroom initiative, placing us at the forefront of inclusive practice. We believe inclusion is a fundamental right, not a 'bolt‑on'. We have invested in creating a low‑arousal environment—characterised by clutter‑free classrooms and calming aesthetics—to ensure every student can focus and thrive. Our strategies are evidence‑based and developed in partnership with educational psychologists, ensuring you have the expert backing and a calm environment to support every child in your classroom.
Our Teaching & Learning Model includes:
- Regulate, Relate, Reason: We recognise that students must feel a sense of connection before they can engage with cognitive reasoning.
- Restorative Practice: We focus on repairing relationships through high challenge accompanied by high support.
- The 5 Pillars: Our classroom practice is structured around five key pillars—Clarity of Intentions, Recap & Recall, New Information, Practice, and Feedback—providing consistency and clarity for all learners.
You will be joining an enthusiastic and energetic maths department, well‑equipped with interactive TVs and visualisers in each classroom. The department operates out of seven classrooms based in a dedicated maths wing. We also offer a comprehensive co‑curricular programme, encompassing activities such as a thriving Axiom Maths Circle, the Outwood Maths Masters programme, and engagement in national competitions including the UKMT Maths Challenges. We value teachers with the skills and passion to teach high‑ability students, and for the right candidate, this role offers significant opportunities to lead in these areas.
The department will be led by an experienced Head of Department with a vision to succeed, and you will be supported by an experienced team of School Improvement Partners as you work to raise attainment levels and offer an engaging curriculum experience that focuses on teaching for understanding.
We benefit from a maths one‑to‑one tutor who offers intervention to students, helping you to raise attainment levels. The Trust is very well connected to the local Maths Hubs, with the Yorkshire and Humber Hub being based in the Outwood Institute of Education. Here, you will have access to world‑class pedagogical research and the chance to get involved in fantastic projects that influence maths teaching across the region.
At Outwood Academy Redcar, you are uniquely positioned to benefit from the Outwood Institute of Education (OIE), which is hosted directly on‑site. We view this role as a foundation for your growth, offering general teacher professional development that goes beyond formal training. Your professional development will include:
- Dedicated Time: Weekly dedicated Learning & Performance Development time (L&P), ensuring you have space to focus on your growth.
- Collaboration: Peer networks that allow you to connect with colleagues across the Family of Schools.
- Broadening Horizons: Opportunities to engage in career‑enhancing experiences, in and outside of the Trust, with the intention that any learning is shared and implemented in your own school and/or across the wider organisation.
- Guidance: Access to coaching and mentoring support to help refine your practice and career path.
- Holistic Support: A commitment to supporting our staff to manage their own wellbeing.
We set high expectations and standards for all. To help you meet them, we offer a supportive environment where staff are valued and developed. Applicants must hold UK QTS. If trained overseas, you must have the relevant evidence that your qualification equates to UK QTS. If you are an excellent teacher ready to work as part of a supportive team and help drive a department to success, we would welcome your application.
Responsibilities include implementing and using a wide range of teaching and learning strategies within the classroom, applying techniques like Assessment for Learning (AfL) to continually improve student performance. A core duty involves effectively using student level data to identify areas for development and raise standards. Maintain awareness of strategies available for improving the learning and achievement of all students, and possess a good understanding of curriculum developments within the specific subject area. Maintain high expectations for all students and communicate effectively with students and their parents, orally and in writing. Work collaboratively as part of a team, sharing good practice across the department, and demonstrate creativity in problem solving and willingness to adopt new approaches.
Qualifications required include a degree in an appropriate discipline related to mathematics, a teaching qualification with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), recent and relevant teaching experience, and confidence in using standard computer packages (word processing, email, spreadsheets).
Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT) places staff development at the heart of its strategy to deliver excellence, aiming to recruit, develop, and retain the best staff through the Outwood Institute of Education (OIE).
Benefits include competitive salary, automatic pay progression, enrolment in the Teachers' Pension Scheme, access to extensive CPD, and a commitment to a manageable workload via the Workload Charter.
Note: All appointments are made in accordance with safer recruitment practices and the statutory guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education.
