Collaborative Working. A Network of Support. Students First.
- Are you a dynamic, enthusiastic, and inspirational teacher of maths?
- Are you ready to join a supportive department in a school at the heart of the local community?
Outwood Academy Redcar is looking to appoint a driven and skilled professional as a Teacher of Mathematics. We are seeking someone passionate about the subject with a strong desire to help all children see and appreciate the value of maths. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced colleague or an Early Career Teacher (ECT) who really wants to make a difference to the lives of young people.
About Outwood Academy Redcar: A Leader in Inclusion
Outwood Academy Redcar is a forward-thinking 11-16 academy located in the scenic coastal town of Redcar. We are proud to be a pilot school for the OGAT Inclusive Classroom initiative, placing us at the forefront of inclusive practice.
We believe inclusion is a fundamental right, not a 'bolt-on'. We have invested in creating a 'low-arousal' environment—characterised by clutter-free classrooms and calming aesthetics—to ensure every student can focus and thrive. Our strategies are evidence-based and developed in partnership with educational psychologists, ensuring you have the expert backing and a calm environment to support every child in your classroom.
You will be joining an enthusiastic and energetic maths department, well-equipped with interactive TVs and visualisers in each classroom. The department operates out of seven classrooms based in a dedicated maths wing.
We also offer a comprehensive co-curricular programme, encompassing activities such as a thriving Axiom Maths Circle, the Outwood Maths Masters programme, and engagement in national competitions including the UKMT Maths Challenges. We value teachers with the skills and passion to teach high-ability students, and for the correct candidate, this role offers significant opportunities to lead in these areas.
- Supportive Leadership: The department will be led by our experienced Head of Department with a vision to succeed, and you will be supported by an experienced team of School Improvement Partners as you work to raise attainment levels and offer an engaging curriculum experience that focuses on teaching for understanding.
- Targeted Support: We benefit from a maths one-to-one tutor who offers intervention to students, helping you to raise attainment levels.
- Maths Hub Connection: The Trust is very well connected to the local Maths Hubs, with the Yorkshire and Humber Hub being based in the Outwood Institute of Education. Here, you will have access to world-class pedagogical research and the chance to get involved in fantastic projects that influence maths teaching across the region.
Essential qualifications include a degree in an appropriate discipline related to the relevant subject and a teaching qualification coupled with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Required experience includes recent and relevant teaching experience (either in employment or training) and experience of assessment at Key Stage 3 and 4.
The successful candidate will be confident in using standard computer packages (word processing, email, and spreadsheets) and understand how these tools can enhance student learning. The role demands high levels of professionalism, including the ability to relate to students in a pleasant and sympathetic manner, and a capacity to recognise potential child safeguarding issues.
The Teacher is expected to implement and use a wide range of teaching and learning strategies within the classroom, applying techniques like Assessment for Learning (AfL) to continually improve student performance. A core duty involves effectively using student level data to identify areas for development and raise standards.
This professional must be aware of strategies available for improving the learning and achievement of all students, alongside possessing a good understanding of curriculum developments within their specific subject area. The role requires maintaining high expectations for all students and effectively communicating with students and their parents, both orally and in writing. The teacher is expected to work collaboratively as part of a team, sharing good practice across the department, and demonstrating creativity in problem solving and a willingness to adopt new approaches.
