About the Role: We are looking for a proactive and passionate support worker (waking night) to join our dedicated team supporting young people (aged 18-21) with a range of needs, including learning disabilities, autism, mental health challenges, and complex support requirements. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine support responsibilities with service patrols and Health & safety tasks.

As a support worker (waking night), you will play a key role in empowering the people we support to live independent and fulfilling lives. You’ll provide high-quality support. You will work closely with the Deputy and play an active role in ensuring our services are person-centred, well-managed, and aligned with Outward’s core values of engage, enable, and empower.

Your Responsibilities

As a support worker (waking night), you will:

  • Provide the night shift on a rota basis, contributing to and working as part of the team.
  • Carry out patrols through the night at regular intervals, driving to every young people’s scheme during each patrol and entering each building to check both residents and the building are safe.
  • Follow the night shift protocols and shift plan.
  • Complete building checks at the beginning, during and end of each shift and record on the handover notes any concerns and tasks to be actioned.
  • If emergency repairs arise during your shift, report to the landlord’s repairs service and give access to contractors.
  • Promote the safety and well-being of young people; responding appropriately to risk, reporting on safeguarding, accidents and incidents as per policies and procedures.
  • Work flexibly across multiple services, including evenings and weekends, to support consistent service delivery.

Essential Criteria

  • Good understanding of safeguarding and risk management in a care/support setting
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues within supported housing or care environments
  • Understanding of confidentiality, GDPR, and data protection principles
  • Staff must have access to a smartphone capable of receiving SMS messages and installing authentication apps for secure systems access.

Desirable Criteria

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
  • Additional training in PBS, safeguarding, or housing-related legislation
