We’re looking for experienced Solution Architects to support a major defence programme, delivering complex on-prem infrastructure and virtual desktop solutions in a highly secure environment. You’ll be working as part of an international architecture team across the UK, Europe, and Asia, helping design and deliver mission-critical platforms.
We have 2 positions:
- Lead Solution Architect – leading a small team (2–3 architects)
- Solution Architect – hands-on delivery within the architecture team
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver on-premise infrastructure and data centre solutions
- Work closely with engineering teams to build out VMware-based platforms
- Support delivery of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions
- Contribute to architecture across a multi-country, secure programme
- Collaborate with stakeholders across defence, engineering, and IT
Experience Required
- Strong experience with VMware (ideally Cloud Foundation)
- Experience with VDI solutions (VMware Horizon, Citrix, or similar)
- Background in data centre / infrastructure architecture
- Experience working in secure or regulated environments
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Security Requirements
- Active SC Clearance preferred
- Candidates with SC in progress may be considered, but clearance timelines are critical
- Programme operates in a UK Eyes Only / secure environment
Working Pattern
- Hybrid: 2–3 days onsite per week
- Split between Warton and Reading — Expect 1 week in 4 onsite in Reading (3–4 days that week)
- Occasional international travel (1–2 expected trips over the course of the contract)
- Part of a 15–20 person architecture function
- Working alongside teams in the UK, Italy, and Japan
- Reporting into the Programme Lead Architect
Ideal Candidate
- Proven Solution Architect with strong infrastructure background
- Comfortable working in complex, secure, multi-stakeholder environments
- Experience supporting engineering workloads (CAD/PLM) beneficial
