SME Electrical Engineer (Technical Authority)

Location: Home based with site travel

About the role

Outsource UK’s client, a global Oil/Gas/Bulk liquid storage and distribution firm, is looking for a new Electrical Engineer. Acting as Technical Authority for electrical systems and equipment, the successful candidate will ensure risks to safe operation are recognised, assessed, and appropriately mitigated, provide technical support, leadership and guidance to projects, operations, and maintenance. This role is responsible for plant modifications, preparing designs and specifications for new electrical systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Apply appropriate electrical engineering codes and standards and manage deviations from standards.
  • Oversee site electrical equipment including Power Transformers, HV/LV Switchgear (Air, Vacuum and Oil), HV/LV distribution, ATEX and FLP motors, motor starters, HV/LV VSDs, soft starts, UPSs, Hazardous Area cabling/containment/junction boxes and earthing/bonding systems.
  • Ensure all electrical equipment/system performance standards are met.
  • Act as Designated Electrical Competent Person under Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • Provide assurance to the UK & IRE Engineering Manager that the MOC process is applied correctly.
  • Lead identification and scoping of projects and plant modifications.

Skillset required

  • Significant electrical system design experience, including load lists, SLDs, cable sizing, fault level, protection grading studies, and motor starting calculations.
  • Experience specifying equipment for installation in Hazardous areas and site commissioning/troubleshooting experience; risk assessments.
  • Experience as designated competent person under Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • Experience in a COMAH-regulated industry or similar; managing ageing assets, training and mentoring site electricians, working with design House/EPC/Contractors, and contributing to technical standards committees is desirable.
  • CEng is desirable but not essential.
