We are looking for a Project Engineer (remote based) to work for a Battery Energy Storage client. Job Role The Project Engineer will support the design, development, and execution of battery energy storage projects within a company that has a growing nationwide pipeline of approximately 2GW, with individual projects ranging from 10MW to 100MW. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, managing technical aspects, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. The Project Engineer will play a crucial role in optimizing project designs, ensuring timely delivery, and maintaining quality standards, with a particular emphasis on design coordination and interface management with contractors and consultants. Reporting to Senior Project Manager, as Project Engineer you will form part of an expanding team responsible for the design, development, and delivery of Battery Energy Storage projects. Primary responsibilities will include: Design & Development: Support the Development and Procurement teams by undertaking site visits to review existing electrical infrastructure, scope out the works and assist with design. Support the preparation of technical specifications for invitations to tender and contracts. Assist in the design and engineering of battery energy storage systems, ensuring alignment with project specifications and industry standards. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors and consultants, to ensure design consistency and compliance with project requirements. Design Coordination: Facilitate design reviews and workshops with contractors and consultants to integrate feedback and resolve design issues. Ensure that design documentation is clear, comprehensive, and communicated effectively to all project stakeholders Ensure all project design documentation is maintained and centrally controlled ensuring new document revisions are disseminated and superseded versions archived. Project Management Support: Assist the assigned Project Manager in planning and executing Battery Energy Storage projects during the full project lifecycle. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to help develop project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans. Technical Oversight: Lead the review and approval of technical documentation, drawings, and specifications related to Battery Energy Storage projects, with a focus on electrical systems. Assist in conducting risk assessments and providing technical solutions to mitigate potential issues during project execution. Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations throughout the project lifecycle. Assist in implementing quality control measures to monitor and maintain project standards to include coordinating, reviewing or witnessing supplier Factory and Site Acceptance Tests. Stakeholder Communication: Act as a technical point of contact for clients, contractors, and consultants, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. Prepare and present technical reports and project updates to stakeholders, particularly on electrical aspects and design coordination efforts. Site Support: Provide on-site support as required during installation and commissioning, addressing technical challenges as they arise. Monitor site activities and contractor ITP submissions to ensure adherence to project specifications and regulatory requirements. Required Skills and Experience: Must be proficient in engineering design software e.g., AutoCAD Must understand electrical systems (LV/HV) and application of DC battery technology Must be familiar with related electrical standards and regulations (BS 7671, 18th Edition etc.) Must be able to present technical information clearly and concisely to non-technical stakeholders Must have strong interpersonal skills for effective coordination with contractors and consultants, fostering a collaborative working environment Must have experience using all MS Office applications to include MS Project Must have strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality in electrical design and implementation Should have experience with grid connections either at Distribution or Transmission voltages and compliance to technical requirements. Should have experience with the delivery of grid connected battery energy storage systems in the U.K. Should have experience working and managing consultants remotely Could understand key BESS services and applications e.g. Frequency Response (FFR), Dynamic Containment (DC), Energy Arbitrage, Capacity Market (CM) services, Restoration, Peak Shaving, Load Shifting, Voltage Control, and Demand Response Could have familiarity with control systems including SCADA, DCS, PLCs and other types of industrial measurement and control systems Could have experience in conducting or supporting grid code studies, including load flow analysis and fault level assessments, is an advantage Minimum Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related field. 2 years of experience in project engineering, focusing on electrical systems in the energy or renewable energy sector CSCS card holder or equivalent site safety scheme
