Location: Warton, full time on site (occasional travel to Reading HQ)

Duration: 12 months

Hourly Rate: £50 PAYE or £67.47 Umbrella

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Data Platform Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining robust, secure, and scalable data pipelines using Apache NiFi and related technologies.
  • Troubleshooting, optimising, and maintaining NiFi flows — addressing performance, error handling, and throughput challenges.
  • Integrating NiFi with cloud platforms, SQL/NoSQL databases, APIs, and third‑party systems.
  • Ensuring data infrastructure adheres to strict security and compliance standards.
  • Supporting data migrations and implementing disaster recovery strategies.
  • Monitoring data infrastructure performance and recommending continual improvements.
  • Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to align platform capabilities with business and regulatory needs.
  • Producing documentation to ensure operational transparency and knowledge sharing.

You’ll also uphold high standards of safety and environmental responsibility in line with company policy, promoting a culture of care and compliance in everything you do.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a professional with a passion for data engineering and a proven ability to work in regulated or high‑security environments.

Essential Experience & Knowledge

  • 3+ years’ experience in data or platform engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Expertise in Apache NiFi, including FlowFiles, Processors, Controller Services, and scheduling.
  • Proven ability to design and optimise batch, real‑time, and event‑driven data flows.
  • Experience integrating diverse data sources and systems (databases, APIs, cloud services).
  • Strong understanding of data security, compliance, and governance principles.
  • Proficiency in Java and SQL; familiarity with C#, Scala, or scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python) is a plus.
  • Hands‑on experience with Windows Server, Linux (RHEL), and virtualisation tools (VMware, Citrix).
  • Exposure to data warehousing solutions (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
  • Experience operating in hybrid cloud/on‑prem environments.
  • Knowledge of data modelling, replication, and query optimisation techniques.
