Outsource UK are recruiting for a Lead Electrical Engineer to join a high-performing engineering environment supporting the design and manufacture of advanced semiconductor equipment.
The Role
As Lead Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading, empowering and motivating a team of Electrical Engineers involved in the design and development of complex product systems and sub-systems. You will ensure engineering deliverables meet requirements, safety standards, regulatory directives, and cost targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical engineering activity across product and system development programmes
- Work at the core of engineering and product development teams, using engineering tools and structured methods to deliver solutions from ambiguous requirements
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define work packages, clarify deliverables, and resolve engineering issues by identifying the most effective technical solution
- Take accountability for technical elements of product system/subsystem design, including risk identification, mitigation planning, and escalation where required
- Drive modularity and standardisation to maximise reuse and efficiency across engineering programmes
- Own safety and type testing activities for assigned systems/subsystems, ensuring compliance through verification and validation
- Review and approve technical reports and documentation generated by the engineering team
- Mentor and coach engineers across all experience levels, supporting their professional development towards leadership roles
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering (Bachelors minimum; Masters desirable) or equivalent practical experience
- Significant experience in electrical engineering product design and development within a relevant engineering sector
- Proven experience coordinating projects, applying governance methods, and leading engineering teams
- Strong experience working in regulated, compliance-driven environments
- Solid understanding of product safety and compliance standards including:
- Low Voltage Directive (EN/UL61010, EN60204)
- EMC Directive (EN61326-1)
- Functional Safety (SIL ratings, EN 61508, EN 13849, EN 61511)
- Safety review methods (HAZOP, FMEA)
- Semiconductor standards (SEMI S2, SEMI S10, EN 12100)
