We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join a leading MEP contractor delivering major, technically complex construction projects in the Surrey area. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically biased engineer looking to take the next step in their career and work on large-scale, high-value developments.

You will join an established project delivery team and play a key role in managing and coordinating mechanical building services packages from pre-construction through to installation, commissioning and project handover. Projects are likely to include major commercial developments, data centres, healthcare, life sciences and other technically demanding schemes.

The role as a Mechanical Project Engineer involves supporting the successful delivery of mechanical building services works, ensuring projects are completed safely, to the required quality standards, within budget and in line with the agreed programme.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Project Manager with the delivery of large-scale mechanical packages
  • Coordinating mechanical installation works from pre-construction through to completion
  • Reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications, technical submissions and design information
  • Working closely with design, commercial, procurement and construction teams
  • Coordinating specialist subcontractors, suppliers and site teams
  • Monitoring project progress and supporting the delivery of programme milestones
  • Identifying and resolving technical and coordination issues throughout the project lifecycle
  • Attending design, progress and coordination meetings
  • Supporting the procurement of mechanical equipment and specialist packages
  • Monitoring installation quality and ensuring works are delivered in accordance with project specifications
  • Assisting with commissioning, testing, snagging and final project handover
  • Ensuring all works are completed in line with health and safety requirements
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal teams

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Mechanical Project Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Building Services Engineer or Mechanical Package Engineer
  • Experience working on major construction or MEP projects
  • A strong technical understanding of mechanical building services systems
  • Knowledge of HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, pipework and public health services
  • Experience coordinating mechanical subcontractors and specialist suppliers
  • The ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications and technical documentation
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and project coordination
  • The ability to work effectively within a fast-paced project environment
  • Relevant mechanical or building services qualifications would be advantageous
