We are seeking an experienced and confident Locum Dispensing Optician or Senior Optical Assistant to work alongside one of our Optometrists delivering high quality domiciliary eye care. This is a patient centred role with a strong commercial element, ideal for someone who enjoys building rapport, delivering excellent dispensing outcomes and working independently in a home environment.

You will play a key role in ensuring clinics run smoothly, patients feel supported and dispensing opportunities are maximised in the right way.

Key responsibilities:
  • Contact the Optometrist the day before the clinic to introduce yourself and confirm the day’s schedule.
  • Travel independently to the first appointment, arriving for an 8.50am start with entry into the patient’s home at 9.00am.
  • Support the Optometrist during the eye examination, including focimetry, cleaning spectacles and general assistance.
  • Build trust and rapport with patients and carers, ensuring a calm, friendly and professional experience.
  • Receive a clear handover from the Optometrist once the test is complete, including clinical recommendations.
  • Take ownership of the dispensing process, guiding patients through frame and lens options that best suit their needs.
  • Balance excellent patient care with strong commercial outcomes, always doing what is right for the customer.
  • Travel independently between appointments throughout the day.
Experience and requirements:
  • Qualified Dispensing Optician or highly experienced Optical Assistant.
  • Strong and confident with all elements of dispensing, including more complex cases.
  • Comfortable working independently in a domiciliary setting.
  • Warm, engaging communication style with a natural sales approach.
  • Commercially aware with the ability to convert clinical recommendations into appropriate sales.
  • Full UK driving licence and own car.
  • Enhanced DBS required.

Frames will be carried by the Optometrist and full training will be provided on systems and processes.
