Are you an experienced and passionate children's residential care professional ready to lead a therapeutic home where children feel safe, valued, understood and supported to reach their full potential? We are looking for an inspirational, motivated and child-centred Registered Manager to lead our three-bed therapeutic children's home in Manchester, providing specialist care and support for children and young people aged 7–18 who have experienced emotional trauma and present with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to do more than simply manage a children's home. We want a leader who can create a positive, nurturing and therapeutic environment where children are given the opportunity to heal, develop, build trusting relationships and achieve positive outcomes.
About the Role
As Registered Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the day-to-day running, development and leadership of the home, ensuring that children receive the highest standards of care in line with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements. You will lead by example, inspire your staff team and promote a therapeutic, relationship-based approach to care, ensuring every child receives individualised support that recognises their experiences, needs and potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operation of a three-bed therapeutic children's home.
- Ensure the home provides outstanding, safe and nurturing care that promotes positive outcomes for children.
- Develop and maintain a strong therapeutic culture based on trauma-informed and child-centred practice.
- Lead, motivate, supervise and develop a dedicated team of residential childcare professionals.
- Ensure compliance with Ofsted regulations, legislation, safeguarding procedures and the Children's Homes Quality Standards.
- Develop, implement and regularly review care plans, placement plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, social workers, education providers and other professionals.
- Manage safeguarding concerns, incidents, complaints and significant events effectively.
- Monitor the quality of care and drive continuous improvement in preparation for Ofsted inspections.
- Manage budgets, staffing levels, recruitment and training.
- Ensure children are supported to access education, health services and opportunities that promote independence and personal development.
About You
We are looking for a confident and compassionate leader who genuinely believes that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their past experiences. You will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Registered Manager, Deputy Manager or Senior Manager within a children's residential care setting.
- A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
- A strong understanding of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and Ofsted inspection framework.
- Experience supporting children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, trauma, attachment difficulties and complex needs.
- A sound understanding of safeguarding, risk management and therapeutic approaches.
- Experience managing, supervising and developing residential childcare teams.
- Strong leadership, communication, organisational and decision-making skills.
- The ability to create a positive culture where children and staff feel supported and valued.
- A commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.
You must be able to meet the suitability requirements to be registered with Ofsted as the Registered Manager.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary of £55,000–£60,000, depending on experience.
- The opportunity to lead and shape a new or developing therapeutic children's home.
- A supportive management structure.
- Ongoing professional development and training.
- Opportunities for career progression.
- The opportunity to build and develop your own dedicated team.
- A rewarding leadership role where you can make a genuine and lasting difference to children's lives.
