About the Role We are looking for compassionate, resilient, and experienced Support Workers to support individuals with complex needs who may present with behaviours that challenge, including aggression, impulsivity, and significant difficulties with emotional regulation.
This is a rewarding but demanding role that requires individuals who can remain calm under pressure, respond confidently to challenging situations, and provide consistent, person-centred support in a safe and structured environment.
The successful candidate will be familiar with working within an enhanced staffing model , which may include 3:1, 4:1, or 5:1 support arrangements, depending on the individual's assessed needs, risk profile, and support plan.
We are seeking individuals who understand the importance of building positive relationships, maintaining professional boundaries, promoting dignity and respect, and supporting individuals to develop emotional regulation and positive coping strategies.
Key Responsibilities Provide high-quality, person-centred support to individuals with complex needs and behaviours that challenge.
Work effectively within enhanced staffing arrangements, including 3:1, 4:1, and 5:1 support models.
Recognise early warning signs of distress, agitation, impulsivity, and escalation, implementing appropriate preventative and de-escalation strategies.
Apply positive behaviour support principles to reduce incidents and promote positive outcomes.
Demonstrate confidence and competence in behaviour de-escalation techniques and approved physical intervention methods.
Follow individualised care plans, positive behaviour support plans, risk assessments, and behaviour management strategies.
Maintain a safe, structured, and consistent environment that supports emotional wellbeing and reduces triggers.
Work collaboratively with colleagues, managers, families, and other professionals to ensure consistent approaches to care and support.
Support individuals to develop coping mechanisms, communication skills, independence, and emotional regulation.
Respond appropriately to incidents, following organisational procedures for reporting, recording, and reviewing incidents.
Maintain accurate and timely records, including daily notes, incident reports, and relevant observations.
Promote choice, independence, dignity, inclusion, and the rights of the individuals being supported.
Participate in team briefings, debriefings, supervision, and ongoing training to maintain safe and effective practice.
Essential Requirements The ideal candidate will have:
Previous experience supporting individuals with complex needs, learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, or other support needs associated with behaviours that challenge.
Experience working with individuals who may display aggression, impulsivity, heightened emotional responses, and difficulties with emotional regulation.
Experience working within enhanced staffing models, including 3:1, 4:1, or 5:1 support arrangements, or demonstrable experience of similar high-support environments.
A sound understanding of behaviour de-escalation, conflict management, and positive behaviour support.
Current training and demonstrated competence in approved physical intervention techniques, or a willingness to complete the required training where appropriate.
The ability to remain calm, patient, and professional during incidents of heightened distress or challenging behaviour.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a closely coordinated team.
A good understanding of safeguarding, duty of care, confidentiality, professional boundaries, and risk management.
The ability to follow detailed support plans and implement consistent approaches to care.
A flexible, reliable, and proactive approach to working in a demanding support environment.
