Outrage London is a growing Ecom company with a high tech back end system, based in Bridgwater, England, United Kingdom. Selling jewellery is the bread and butter of the business; however, our backend system is what's helping us scale and grow efficiently, offering opportunities to work with contemporary web technologies. Team members collaborate closely on-site, contributing to a practical and delivery-focused culture. Applicants can expect a setting where technical skills, initiative, and problem-solving are valued and developed.
Outrage London is looking for an experienced Lead Software Developer & Technical Operations Manager to take full technical ownership of our rapidly growing internal software platform. Our internal application is becoming a critical part of the business and our day-to-day operations, supporting multiple areas including stock management, staff management, tasks and workflows, internal communications, scheduling, payroll administration, complaints, performance tracking, and wider business operations.
The Main Focus: Your first major focus will be to lead the development of a complete stock management and inventory intelligence system, providing complete visibility over stock, purchasing, and product performance. This includes stock levels, stock movements, sales velocity, product performance, forecasting, low-stock warnings, purchasing requirements, and advanced inventory analytics. The goal is to allow management to make data-driven stock and purchasing decisions rather than relying on manual spreadsheets, assumptions, or disconnected systems. You will also build and manage API integrations with the marketplaces, sales channels, and third-party platforms we operate across.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take full technical ownership of our internal business application.
- Lead and manage the ongoing development of the platform.
- Build a complete stock management and inventory analytics system.
- Develop stock forecasting, sales velocity, and purchasing intelligence tools.
- Create advanced management dashboards and business analytics.
- Build and maintain API integrations with sales channels and third-party platforms.
- Create reliable systems for syncing orders, products, customers, and stock data.
- Review the existing codebase and technical architecture.
- Manage and review work completed by offshore and external development teams.
- Introduce strict code review and approval processes.
- Implement professional development, testing, and deployment procedures.
- Improve application performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Maintain technical documentation for all critical systems.
- Develop backup and disaster recovery procedures.
- Ensure the company maintains complete control and ownership of its infrastructure, source code, and technical assets.
Security & Infrastructure:
Security will be a major responsibility within this role. As our internal software becomes more critical to the business, we need someone responsible for ensuring appropriate security controls and development standards are implemented across the entire operation. You will be responsible for reviewing and implementing:
- Role-based access control and least-privilege permissions.
- Firebase Security Rules.
- Secure API authentication and authorisation.
- AWS IAM and infrastructure access controls.
- API rate limiting and abuse protection.
- Secret and API key management.
- Secure environment variable management.
- Audit logs and user activity tracking.
- Authentication and session security.
- Database access controls.
- Secure development and code review processes.
- Dependency and vulnerability monitoring.
- Backup and disaster recovery systems.
- Protection against common web application attacks.
- Secure access procedures for internal, offshore, and external developers.
- Monitoring and alerting for suspicious application activity.
You must be confident reviewing existing systems and challenging development practices where you believe the business, its data, or infrastructure is unnecessarily exposed. We actively use AI to increase development speed and productivity. You must have strong practical experience with AI-assisted software development, including ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, and Claude. We are looking for someone who understands how to use AI effectively to plan, develop, review, debug, and document software at speed. You must also understand that AI-generated code requires proper technical review, security validation, and testing before deployment.
Technical Experience Required:
You must have strong experience with:
- JavaScript
- React
- Firebase
- Firebase Authentication
- Firestore
- Firebase Cloud Functions
- Firebase Security Rules
- REST APIs
- Third-party API integrations
- AWS
- AWS IAM and access management
- API rate limiting
- Git and GitHub
- GitHub Actions and CI/CD
- Secure application architecture
- Database architecture and design
- Authentication and authorisation
- Role-based access control
- Application logging and monitoring
Experience with Redux, e-commerce systems, inventory management software, and large internal business applications would be highly beneficial.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are looking for someone who thinks like a technical owner rather than a task-based developer. You should be comfortable taking an existing application, understanding how it works, and developing a clear technical roadmap for improving its architecture, security, and scalability. You must be able to communicate technical risks and decisions in straightforward language to company management. You will also need to confidently manage, review, and control development work completed by offshore and external development teams. The right person will become a key technical decision-maker within Outrage London and take increasing ownership of our technology operation as the company grows.
Why Join Outrage London?
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a real internal platform actively used within a rapidly growing e-commerce business. You will not be working on theoretical projects or minor website changes. The systems you build will directly influence our stock purchasing, inventory, staff operations, business analytics, order management, and future growth. As Outrage London continues to scale, the importance, complexity, and scope of the platform will grow with it.
Salary, Benefits & Career Progression:
The package for this role includes:
- £40,000 annual salary
- 31 days' paid annual holiday
- Paid bank holidays
- Annual company bonus scheme linked to agreed development milestones, build targets, and successful delivery of key projects
- Clear development targets and performance objectives, ensuring expectations and priorities are agreed from the outset
- Full-time, permanent in-house position
- Direct access to company management and key decision-makers
- Significant ownership and autonomy over the technical direction of our internal platform
- Opportunity to lead and oversee external and offshore development resources
- Direct involvement in major technology, operational, and infrastructure decisions
- Opportunity to build systems that are actively used across the entire company
- Long-term career progression as our internal technology operation expands
- Potential for the role and salary to grow alongside the responsibility and importance of the platform
- A fast-moving working environment where ideas can be discussed, approved, and implemented quickly
- A close-knit, ambitious team culture within a rapidly growing e-commerce business
An In-House Role:
This is a fully in-house position and remote working is not available. This is intentional. The successful candidate will work closely with our management, stock, and operational teams to understand exactly how the company functions day to day. We want someone who can physically see operational problems, speak directly with the people using the software, and then design and build practical solutions around real business requirements. For the right person, this is an opportunity to become the technical lead behind a business-critical platform and play a major role in shaping how Outrage London operates as the company continues to grow.
