Global expansion is broken. Without a local entity, conversion rates fall, costs rise, and compliance gets messy. Outpost fixes it. Selling internationally is a maze of tax, payments, and operational friction. Most brands avoid it or expand slowly and expensively. Outpost is your modular back office for global commerce. Pick only what you need — tax, payments, treasury, or operations — and unlock new markets without the overhead. We operate as Merchant of Record for digital and physical goods across 58+ tax jurisdictions. That means we own the full stack — payments, tax, compliance, and customer experience. Sell anything, anywhere. Without compromise.
This is a Product Manager role for someone who wants to build like a founder, ship like an engineer, and happens to have world-class product taste. You’ll own the product roadmap end‑to‑end — from merchant conversations to technical specs to post‑launch iteration. You’ll work directly with the CEO, engineering, and operations to turn the messy reality of global commerce into elegant, scalable product experiences. This isn’t a role where you write specs and throw them over the wall. You’ll be in the weeds: talking to merchants, debugging edge cases with engineers, analysing data, and making hard trade‑offs between speed and quality. Work is a big part of your purpose. You want to build something important, take ownership, and ship products that unlock billions in global trade.
What You’ll Get
Yes, the work is intense. But in return, you’ll get training and exposure most people wait 10–20 years to access. You’ll be working on global problems, dealing with senior stakeholders, and owning strategic projects across payments, tax, finance, product, and operations — from day one. We won’t handhold, but we’ll coach you hard. If you’re hungry, you’ll leave this role with a world‑class product skillset and the ability to build products in the hardest domains.
What You’ll Do
- Own the product: Define roadmap and prioritise ruthlessly based on merchant pain, technical feasibility, and commercial impact.
- Take full ownership from ideation through launch, growth, and iteration.
- Set success metrics and obsessively track what’s working and what’s not.
- Make the hard calls: what to build, what to kill, what to ship fast vs. build right.
- Be the voice of the merchant: Run merchant interviews, analyse feedback, and translate pain into product requirements.
- Work with Ops and Legal to understand blockers in onboarding, compliance, and payments.
- Turn complex merchant needs into simple, scalable product experiences.
- Equip sales so they can win with customers.
- Ship with engineering: Write specs that engineers can actually build from.
- Have technical discussions about architecture, trade‑offs, and implementation.
- Scope down relentlessly — i.e. ship the 20% that delivers 80% of the value.
- Debug issues in production and iterate based on real merchant behaviour.
- Think strategically: Connect the dots between product, market expansion, and business model.
- Identify white space: what should we build next to unlock the next 10 markets or $10M in revenue?
- Work on pricing, positioning, and go‑to‑market strategy.
- Track competitive landscape and ensure we stay ahead.
Example Projects
- Ship a new merchant onboarding flow that reduces time‑to‑live from 2 weeks to 2 days.
- Build a self‑serve tax compliance tool for merchants expanding into new EU markets.
- Design and launch a dashboard that gives merchants real‑time visibility into settlements, reserves, and compliance status.
- Scope and ship payment routing logic that optimises auth rates vs. cost by market.
- Create a merchant‑facing API that lets brands integrate Outpost into their existing checkout.
- Launch a new product vertical (e.g., subscriptions, B2B payments) from 0→1.
- Build the compliance workflow that automates VAT reporting across 27 EU countries.
- Debug why merchants are churning in a specific market and ship the fix.
What We’re Looking For
- Ideal background: 2‑5 years in product management, ideally at high‑growth fintech or B2B SaaS (Stripe, Adyen, Revolut, Wise, Shopify, or similar).
- Experience shipping technical products: payments, tax, compliance, infrastructure, or dev tools.
- Bonus: engineering background or you’ve written code professionally.
- STEM degree preferred but not required if you can demonstrate technical depth.
- Ridiculous bias for action — you ship, not theorise.
- Technical fluency — you can hold your own in engineering discussions and understand system design trade‑offs.
- Exceptional product taste — you know what great looks like and you’re obsessed with craft.
- Strong analytical rigor — you make decisions based on data, not opinions.
- Merchant obsession — you genuinely care about solving customer pain.
- Comfortable in chaos — you thrive in ambiguity and can prioritise when everything feels urgent.
- Shameless curiosity — you question assumptions and dig until you understand root causes.
- Clear, quantified achievements on your CV (not vague descriptions).
What this role is not:
- Not a pure strategy or research role (you need to ship).
- Not someone who needs a PM team or layers of process to be effective.
- Not a specialist who only wants to work on one part of the stack.
- Not someone who delegates execution (your default mode is hands‑on).
Why This Role Is Different
This isn’t about just managing a backlog. It’s about building the product that powers global commerce from the ground up. You won’t just be in the room, you’ll be defining what we build. You’ll have exposure to every part of the business: payments, tax, compliance, treasury, operations. You’ll work directly with the founding team. You’ll shape products that unlock new markets for thousands of merchants. The problems are hard. The scope is massive. The impact is real. We expect whoever is in this role to grow rapidly, and we’ll back you every step of the way.
What We Offer
- Equity and salary in a well‑funded startup.
- Ability to own your work and move fast.
- World‑class training from operators who’ve scaled globally.
- A global mission with real impact.
- Low politics, high output.
- Chance to grow into a senior product leadership role.
- A culture of builders, not talkers.
Working Style
We work together in person in London or Amsterdam, 4‑5 days a week. We believe the hardest problems are solved in the room.
