This role supports a young man with a spinal cord injury, ensuring his independence, health and wellbeing. The Support Worker works part-time in Bude and is part of a dedicated support team.

Location: Bude

Part time: 2 days per week - usually Sunday and Monday

Bank Work: for additional shifts and cover

Shift Patterns:

  • 10:00-15:30 Sunday double up
  • 09:00-14:30 Monday double up
  • Weekends and Bank Holidays form part of the rota

Pay Rates:

  • £15.00 per hour weekday hours
  • £1.00 per hour less during probationary period
  • Double time for Bank Holidays

Job Purpose: To support your client with their day-to-day living, promoting their independence and supporting them to live a fulfilled life ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing personal care and daily living support
  • Assisting with transfers and mobility
  • Supporting with household tasks and routines
  • Promoting independence and participation in hobbies and activities
  • Working collaboratively with an experienced, supportive team
  • Provide practical support for the client and their family, such as helping with personal care, household tasks and paperwork
  • Assist and encourage the client to engage in everyday home, social, leisure and work activities, according to the individual’s choice
  • Support and monitor the client's healthcare needs, including administering medication and other clinical tasks
  • Help the client to access community facilities and be included in community groups, if they so wish
  • Understand communication needs and adapt communication style accordingly
  • Keep accurate, up to date records of all care provided
  • Work positively with other professionals, such as doctors and therapists, to ensure consistency of support
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times
  • Participate in learning and development opportunities as required

Ideal Candidate:

  • Respectful of personal boundaries and the client’s right to make his own decisions
  • Excellent communication skills and a sense of humour
  • Comfortable working around pets and with a smoker
  • Supporting the client’s personal care tasks
  • Flexible and reliable

Preferred:

  • Previous experience of spinal cord injury
  • Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to drive the client’s adapted vehicle
