Role Description

Reporting to the QA Manager, the Senior QA Officer plays a pivotal role in maintaining and continuously improving the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance with GMP and BRCGS Food Safety standards, and supporting right-first-time documentation, batch release, and customer quality expectations.

As a senior technical lead within the QA function, you will take ownership of critical quality activities, lead investigations and audits, manage customer-facing quality responsibilities, and mentor junior colleagues. You will work closely with Commercial, R&D, Operations and other key stakeholders to ensure quality and regulatory requirements are embedded throughout the product lifecycle.

This is a highly visible and developmental role, offering a clear pathway towards future QA Management responsibilities for an ambitious quality professional looking to broaden their technical, leadership and commercial experience.

  • Lead and manage investigations into deviations, non-conformances, audit findings and customer complaints, ensuring robust root cause analysis, timely resolution and effective CAPA implementation.
  • Write, review and approve GMP documentation, including SOPs, controlled forms, manufacturing logbooks and quality risk assessments, ensuring documentation is accurate, practical and aligned with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Take ownership of document lifecycle management, initiating updates in response to change controls, audits, regulatory developments and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead internal audits and support the wider site audit strategy, ensuring ongoing audit readiness and compliance with applicable regulatory and quality standards.
  • Host customer audits, quality meetings, onboarding projects and business development discussions, acting as the primary QA contact for assigned customers.
  • Manage customer quality enquiries, complaints and documentation requests, ensuring professional and timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with Commercial and R&D teams to support regulatory compliance for new and existing products, including product onboarding and launch readiness.
  • Manage and support the export of products of animal origin, including the preparation and submission of Export Health Certificate (EHC) applications and liaison with veterinary inspectors.
  • Monitor and analyse QA metrics, including documentation errors, deviation trends and complaint categories, using data-driven insights to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and support junior QA colleagues, providing guidance and training on documentation practices, investigation techniques and regulatory expectations.
  • Participate in cross-functional Quality Risk Management activities, including HACCP and TACCP, as well as wider continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintain accurate QA records and ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with current GMP, BRCGS Food Safety requirements and company standards.
  • Promote a positive quality culture, encouraging high standards of performance, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement across the QA function.
