Job Summary
Our client operates Network POP sites Globally within 3rd party Datacenter sites, alongside its own Datacenters.
When you join their London team as Field & Datacentre engineer you’ll be part of a small team responsible for all operational elements of uptime, delivery of customer services, installation, faulting & maintenance of all the equipment within the POP sites & their London Datacentre.
Working closely with the Facilities & Data Centre Manager, Field Supervisor and their offshore Customer Service Centre (CSC), you will ensure works are completed within the agreed departmental SLAs. Primarily your field engineering support will be within the UK (inside M25) but also at times elsewhere within the UK and from occasionally in EMEA.
Your working hours will be:
09:00 – 18:00 Monday to Friday.
Callout – 4 Week rolling Rota. Covering Field & Datacenter. On call is £4,250 per annum for 1 week in 4 24/7 on call
Location – Office based Central London (EC2) & Field based within London & other global POPs.
Flexibility of working location is required. Subject to work loads and Datacenter cover requirements and due to their SLA’s you should be able to get to sites within 2 hours which means you must have your own car and probably live in London or at least inside the M25.
Primary duties:
• Respond & assist with CSC Faults within 1 hour.
• On Call Rota - Respond & assist with CSC. 2 Hour SLA to site.
• Respond & assist with Provisioning tasks.
• Provide cover for Datacenter.
• Pre-Staging & testing of new equipment & network deployments. (Cabling – copper or fibre infrastructure, Labelling, Basic Equipment configuration, Faulting)
• Respond & assist with deployments of equipment & networks within the field and overseas.
• Respond & assist with Faults & deployments of customer equipment & network installs.
• Work with Engineering teams to deploy & integrate equipment into the network POPs.
• Initiate and implement migrations on network equipment.
• Carry out Routine & Preventative maintenance on network equipment.
• Provide weekly Status reports to Project manager on Pre-staging, Equipment & Network deployments.
• Responsible for records such as uploading and maintaining current site rack pictures on Microsoft Teams, uploading site records. Updating equipment, patching & new sites onto their internal systems.
• Responsible for POP site routine maintenance – Filter cleaning, equipment function checks & rack tidy ups.
• Assist Logistics with hardware picking & shipping requests. Carry out physical Hardware Stock checks and using their online platform to check in & out of hardware requests.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential Experience with Faulting, Installation & Commissioning of: -
• Equipment - Nokia / Alcatel SDH Transmission equipment (1642 / 1660 / 1678).
• Installing and commissioning SDH networks. Using the above equipment platforms.
• Equipment - Juniper / BTI Transmission network equipment (MX / ACX / BTI7200 / BTI 7060).
• Installing and commissioning Ethernet network. Using the above equipment platforms.
• Equipment - Juniper / BTI / Ekinops (DWDM / CWDM).
• Installing and commissioning CWDM & DWDM networks. Using the above equipment platforms.
• Equipment - Cisco (Switch / Router).
• Ability to use MS Office/Visio/O365, CAD & Teams.
Not essential but useful for their own datacentre:
• Installing & commissioning DC & AC Power systems. (Rectifiers / PDU’s / ATS Switch)
• First line support for Datacentre M&E Equipment (UPS-Uninterrupted power supply / AHU-Air Handling units / Generators / Switch Gear.

• Has use of an appropriate car for which a car allowance of £6,000 will be applicable. Car allowance is £6,000 per annum. Car allowance is to cover all running costs of personal vehicle including travel to the office and London data centres within the M25. The Company will pay any congestion charges.
