About the Role
As Sous Chef at Jesse’s House, you’re the steady hand behind the pass and the right arm to the Head Chef. You help set the pace of the kitchen, leading service, supporting the team, and making sure every dish leaving the pass is something we’re proud of. This is a role for someone who cares about great food, strong teams, and kitchens that run with both energy and calm. You’ll bring structure to the busy moments, support junior chefs as they grow, and help keep standards beautifully high even on the busiest services.
Key Responsibilities
- Service Leadership
- You help set the rhythm of the kitchen during service.
- Lead and support kitchen service to ensure it runs smoothly, calmly and efficiently.
- Guide chefs through timing, quality checks and plating standards.
- Work closely with Front of House to keep service flowing and members happy.
- Step in quickly to solve issues before they impact the guest experience.
- Preparation & Kitchen Organisation
- Great service starts long before the first order comes in.
- Ensure all sections are fully prepped and ready for service.
- Oversee mise en place across the kitchen so every station is set up for success.
- Forecast prep needs based on bookings, events and service patterns.
- Maintain a clean, organised and well-run kitchen environment.
- Quality & Consistency
- Details matter. Especially in a members’ house.
- Ensure every dish leaving the pass meets our standards for flavour, presentation and quality.
- Support the Head Chef in maintaining consistency across all services.
- Uphold food safety and hygiene standards across the kitchen.
- Stock, Suppliers & Kitchen Operations
- Behind every great service is a well-managed kitchen.
- Oversee stock levels and support ordering processes.
- Manage stock rotation and minimise kitchen waste.
- Coordinate kitchen deliveries and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
- Support cost control and responsible use of ingredients.
