As the Clinical Director of Metabolic Health you will bring your expertise in endocrinology or metabolic medicine into a fast-moving, technology-driven environment. While a member of the Clinical Affairs team, your day to day will be in partnership with hardware, algorithm, science and regulatory teams to define, validate and bring to market metabolic-relevant features that enhance Oura’s ability to monitor and support metabolic-related health. You’re the clinician-scientist who bridges human physiology and wearable product innovation across the wellness and software as a medical device (SaMD) spaces.
What you’ll do:
- Build trust and credibility for Oura and our products for members, physicians, scientists and health systems.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product, design, data science and algorithm teams to define clinical features aligned with metabolic health, including integrations with continuous glucose monitors (CGM) and laboratory testing.
- Collaborate on clinical feature specifications: Translate your metabolic health knowledge and existing literature into real-world informed performance goals, working closely with science and product teams.
- Design and oversee clinical validation studies (feasibility, observational, real-world) to demonstrate product performance and clinical relevance in the metabolic space.
- Work with regulatory, quality and clinical outcomes teams to build protocols, drive submissions and ensure compliance in applicable markets, and adapt to the changing regulatory environment in major markets.
- Engage cross-functionally: proactively anticipate risks, communicate clearly about challenges, adjust plans, and maintain a collaborative mindset.
- Serve as a clinical voice across the organization: staying abreast of the newest and most relevant medical insights, weaving this science into product decisions, translating this into company knowledge and features.
- Guide the team on inclusion of appropriate biometrics and ground truth data, clinical endpoints, and study design.
- Uplevel internal knowledge across teams related to this domain of medicine and science.
- Represent Oura externally to scientific audiences, payors, partners, clinicians and health systems.
What we’re looking for:
Minimum qualifications:
- MD/DO/MBBS/Consultant/GP (or local equivalent) with deep expertise in general endocrinology, metabolic medicine, or related specialty.
- Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology or a related specialty with an active medical license.
- At least 5 years practicing medicine in a relevant field.
- Prior experience in health product development or digital health, in regulated environments (software as a medical device/SaMD, wearables, diagnostics).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable presenting to diverse teams including leadership.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience designing and executing pivotal clinical studies for regulated health products (evidence generation, real-world observational datasets, algorithm validation).
- Familiarity with algorithm/ML development in a clinical context (glycemic patterns, insulin resistance markers, or metabolic-physiology signals) and with the application of statistical analysis to clinical algorithms.
- Familiarity with diagnostic and wearable signals, their physiologic origins and the principles behind their measurement modalities.
- Experience partnering with regulatory bodies (FDA, EU MDR/IVDR, or equivalent) on product submissions for metabolic health tools.
Why you’ll love working here:
- Get to jump in as a direct contributor to Oura’s vision, working deeply with our cross functional colleagues, with the potential to grow a team, expand your influence internally and external to Oura.
- Make a direct impact on millions of users seeking better sleep, recovery, and metabolic health insights.
- Work in a small team setting where your clinical insight directly guides product direction and innovation.
- Collaborate across hardware, firmware, algorithm, data science, design and clinical operations — and have your clinical voice heard.
- Competitive compensation, benefits, and an opportunity to be part of a company that puts wellness, science and innovation at the center.
