Why Greencore?

Following the combination with Bakkavor in January 2026, we’re one of the UK’s leading creators of convenience food, driven by a simple purpose: to make everyday taste better. As a vibrant and fast-moving business, we’re proud to employ over 28,000 talented colleagues across 36 manufacturing sites and 21 distribution depots in the UK and the US. Together, we bring delicious food to life. Our products cover every meal occasion from breakfast through to dinner and dessert, with lunch and snacking in between. In FY25, our shared passion helped us achieve combined revenues of approximately £4bn.

Our extensive direct to store (DTS) network, with 17 depots across the UK, allows us to deliver fresh and frozen food both our own and from trusted partners to thousands of stores every day, ensuring consumers enjoy the very best, whenever and wherever they shop.

This is a pivotal moment in our story. Bringing two great businesses together has reshaped what’s possible, and our environmental agenda sits right at the heart of it. With scale comes responsibility, and an opportunity to lead the convenience food sector on the issues that matter most: carbon, waste, water, packaging, and the partnerships that make real progress possible.

Role Purpose

To lead the environmental improvement agenda across our southern site network, deploying and implementing the Group environmental strategy and standards defined through the SHE Centre of Excellence. You’ll maintain and improve group systems and work together with site leadership teams to embed a proactive, ambitious environmental culture—at a moment when our scale, our customer commitments, and our integration journey make this work genuinely consequential.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work with the Head of Environment through the SHE Centre of Excellence to support the development and deployment of the Group environmental strategy, ensuring an effective and sustained environmental management system and culture across a newly combined estate.
  • Lead effective and consistent implementation plans with business leadership teams to deliver the environmental strategy, including but not limited to relevant environmental policies and procedures across Greencore—enabling compliance, continuous improvement, and the harmonisation of best practice across our site network.
  • Provide direction to the business on the implementation of controls to mitigate risks arising from new and changing environmental legislation, in a regulatory landscape that’s moving faster than ever.
  • Create champion programmes within business leadership teams that develop the environmental culture and behaviours that underpin the overall Greencore environmental strategy.
  • Finding areas of improved environmental best practice and innovation already in our sites and sharing them across the network.
  • Implement, develop and maintain processes that provide business insight, governance, data and key performance indicators to drive improvements and effective risk management.
  • Provide direction and coaching to develop the environmental capability within the site and grow functional capability and expertise within the HSE team, to maximise performance and potential.
  • Establish effective relationships with Business Leadership teams and external regulatory bodies, providing support and guidance—and the confidence to push back constructively—as required.
  • Ensure that environment matters are considered in all capex projects in line with business policy and insurance requirements.
  • Coordinate the business environmental audit process to maintain and monitor environmental management systems, provide advice on recommended actions, and guide them through to completion.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

This role suits someone who thrives in fast-moving, high-change environments and brings a proactive approach balanced with strong emotional intelligence. You’ll be self-sufficient, comfortable working autonomously across a dispersed site network, and energised by the challenge of embedding environmental thinking in places where operational pressures can often take precedence.

  • Ideally educated to degree level or holds a relevant professional qualification in environmental management.
  • Experience leading environmental management, ideally gained in a manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to large, complex, multi-site businesses going through transformation, integration or acquisition would be a great advantage.
  • Experience of process improvement and implementing culture change.
  • Practitioner Member of IEMA (PIEMA) or similar.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the credibility to nudge into busy senior conversations and the judgement to know when the moment is right.
  • Experience having worked with site leadership teams.
  • Confidence with data, reporting and Excel — environmental performance is increasingly a numbers game.
  • A genuine passion for waste management, circularity or resource efficiency is a real plus.

What you’ll get in return:

  • Competitive salary and job-related benefits.
  • Annual Target Bonus.
  • Car Allowance.
  • Pension.
  • Life insurance up to 4x salary.
  • Individual PMI Cover.
  • Company share save scheme.
  • Greencore Qualifications.
  • Exclusive Greencore employee discount platform.
  • Access to a full Wellbeing Centre platform.

Throughout your time at Greencore, you will be supported with on the job training and development opportunities to further your career.
