Our Media is a leading special-interest content business, based in the buzzing, creative city of Bristol. We're home to market-leading brands in craft, cycling, science and nature, homes and music. We help our audiences pursue their passions through highly trusted, original content – in print, video and online.
Within the craft division, you would be working across two titles, producing 13 editions of each a year, alongside digital editions, and additional supplements. We are looking for an enthusiastic, efficient, and creative Designer to join our dynamic team. The main purpose of the job is to assist the Creative Lead with the design and production of the magazines, within the allotted schedules. You will be working closely with the Creative Lead to design templated layouts for two titles and help with aspects of production, while also creating various marketing and digital assets.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Creative Lead with the design, layout and sending the magazines to print as well as to proof and remote proof.
- Ensure a steady flow of material to keep production schedules running smoothly.
- Responsible for the design, quality, look and feel of attributed pages and brand design-related material as directed by the Creative Lead.
- Undertake general picture research and Adobe Photoshop work.
- Work closely and communicate effectively with the Creative Lead, Editor/s, and editorial team to ensure editorial style is maintained and all deadlines are met.
- Ensure the magazines are archived digitally.
- Help organise logistics for location and studio photoshoots, including collating projects/materials and props plus booking models and venues.
- Assist the Creative Lead with their responsibilities and help in their absence, with support from the wider editorial team.
- Help to create imaginative, engaging layouts for the magazine using typography and photography.
- Create digital assets for websites and social media.
- Be pro-active and seek to develop your design skills.
Requirements
Essential Skills:
- Be competent in the use of Adobe Creative suite, in particular InDesign and Photoshop.
- Experience of creating digital assets for online use.
- Be accurate, creative and self-motivated with a high attention to detail.
- Strong portfolio of creative design work, showing an awareness and interest in design and typography trends and an ability to incorporate these into your work.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise work according to tight deadlines.
- Ability to foster a positive working environment taking all stakeholders into account.
- Brilliant communication skills.
- Ability to contribute ideas and support the team environment to encourage efficient workflow processes.
Preferred Skills:
- An understanding of craft readership and current market trends.
- Some newsstand and publishing industry awareness.
- Experience of designing digital assets is desirable but not essential.
