Position: Reviews Editor – part‐time, 14 hours per week. Responsible for managing the BBC Sky at Night Magazine's four key sections: Equipment Reviews, Accessories, Skills, and Astrophotography Processing. The role involves checking in with the team, responding to queries, and ensuring content is engaging and meets BBC standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission and edit articles for equipment reviews, accessories, skills and astrophotography processing sections.
- Generate, identify, and develop strong article ideas tailored to the BBC Sky at Night audience.
- Maintain article records, plan workflow up to three months in advance, and meet publishing deadlines.
- Collaborate with writers and subject experts to source and review content.
- Provide constructive feedback and ensure high editorial quality.
Essential Qualifications
- Good knowledge and keen interest in practical astronomy, astrophotography and/or optical equipment.
- Understanding of what makes an engaging feature for the BBC Sky at Night audience.
- Ability to generate, identify and develop strong, sound ideas for articles and match them with suitable writers.
- Well organized, with the capacity to keep on top of article records and plan work up to three months in advance.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience commissioning writers.
- Strong proofreading and editing skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Contact list of writers and subject experts in amateur astronomy and astrophotography.
- Knowledge of technical aspects of practical astronomy, telescope setups and astro‐imaging including DSLR or specialist astro cameras.
