Our Media is a leading special-interest content business, based in Bristol. We’re home to market-leading brands in craft, cycling, science and nature, homes and music. We help our audiences pursue their passions through highly trusted, original content – in print, video and online. Our brands include BBC Science Focus, BBC Wildlife Magazine, Your Home, Gathered.how, BikeRadar and Cycling Plus. We also have an award-winning content agency that works with major charities, brands and membership organisations to tell their stories and engage audiences better – in print, video, and online.

We’re looking for a Content Writer with excellent writing skills and a strong intuition for news trends, to work on digital titles across several platforms, including Apple News. You will be working within our Nature portfolio, which includes BBC Wildlife and BBC Countryfile Magazine, and their associated websites. Working closely with the Group Digital Lead, you will help create engaging content from idea generation right through to publication. This fast-paced role is exciting and varied, and we’re looking for an individual who is highly organised, has exceptional attention to detail and is constantly in touch with the latest topics of the moment. You’ll bring plenty of ideas and be experienced enough to write accurate and engaging copy that is supported by expert commentary, as well as help sub content, commission content, source images and generate attention-grabbing headlines. This is a great opportunity to build your career as a journalist and get experienced guidance in a growing sector of the media.

Responsibilities

  • Write accurate and engaging copy across a range of topics, supported by expert commentary.
  • Help sub content, commission content, source images and generate attention-grabbing headlines.
  • Collaborate with the Group Digital Lead to move content from idea generation to publication.
  • Monitor trends and respond quickly to news and analytics to deliver great content.

Requirements

Essential

  • A background in journalism with a natural talent and genuine enthusiasm for creating engaging news content.
  • The ability to write compelling features and articles across a wide range of topics and build relationships with industry experts.
  • Confident repurposing and updating existing content, and creating new pieces from archive materials.
  • Brilliant communication skills.
  • A focused and highly motivated self-starter who works well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, reacting to news and analytics to deliver great content to readers.
  • A keen eye for detail and accuracy, especially when working to tight deadlines.

Desirable

  • An understanding and appreciation of the issues that affect nature and the countryside in the UK and around the globe will be an advantage.
  • An understanding of Apple News+ and awareness of best practises for creating editorial content for industry digital platforms, including websites.

We respect and value differences. We believe that when people from different backgrounds and with different perspectives work together, we can create the most value for our people, readers, customers, and society. If you are excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with everything listed in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway, as you may still be a good fit for this or other roles. We’re striving to create a more diverse and inclusive environment and to ensure our content is representative of all our audiences.

We have established six internal D&I network groups to help our people feel supported and included, and to provide an open environment for people to network, mentor and exchange ideas, solutions, and experiences. If there is anything we can do to make our recruitment process more accessible for you, please do let us know at recruitment@ourmedia.co.uk.
